Reader’s 3 sacks would be tied for 3rd on the Bengals right now.

But it would be tied for 3rd with BJ HIll. https://www.bengals.com/team/stats/ For interior guys especially, the sack number is not the most important. I want a guy who is constantly pushing the pocket back at the QB. Even if not technically getting a pressure or a sack. Make the QB uncomfortable. Push guys into his line of sight. Make it hard for him to scramble because there are no clear lanes. The Reader/Rankins thing was so dumb on so many levels. And one did not need hindsight to see it. Rankins cost DOUBLE what Reader made this year. Now, Reader makes +$1 million more next year. But the value the Lions got was way better than what we got. Even prior to Rankins' illness. He had one good game against us and 7 years of 'meh'. Reader had been a stud for over half a decade. Plus we had to burn two day 2 picks at DT.

His 18 tackles (only 10 of them solo) are both the lowest of any season he started at least 10 games. Also 2 missed tackles that hit harder when you only have 10 solo tackles, so you're at 10% missed tackle. If you put stock in PFF he's been very mediocre against the run this year. The Lions were already the 2nd rushing defense last year and now they're 4th. There's a big difference between being expected to be the 2nd best player on a defense and just being a part. Reader hasn't made a tackle either solo or assisted in 3 weeks. ____________________________________________________________

My point was more about how bad our DL has been, not that Reader has been crushing it for Detroit or anything. I thought the *3* sacks part made that clear, but maybe not.

Coulda had Javon Kinlaw for about 1/2 the price. Let's save him from NYJ next year

And he only played a fraction of the snaps. But, upgrade to what we have now.

He missed a full 1/3rd of the games here in Cincinnati and went on the IR 3 times in 4 years. That said I expected them to actually, you know, sign a replacement. This is up there with not wanting to pay Bates top-tier safety money for his inconsistent play, but also not wanting Nick Scott as a starting S. If we could just operate like an actual franchise we wouldn't have to choose between overpaying guys with red flags or being stuck with dumpster fire players instead. There IS some middle ground there! Lol ____________________________________________________________
