Still have another 4 game series against the Cubs though, who are still 3-7 over their last 10 where we need to make some headway before 5 games against the 1st place Guardians and Brewers. ____________________________________________________________

He got eviscerated in that opening inning. I don't know what happened since May 1st, when he last had a quality start, but he has not lasted long in games or prevented runs in his last 6 starts: 3.2 IP, 4 ER 4.2 IP, 3 ER 5.1 IP, 5 ER 5.0 IP, 3 ER 4.0 IP, 3 ER 5.0 IP, 3 ER Over those starts, his ERA was 6.83 with a WHIP of 1.77. Even during his struggles last season, he was at least lasting longer in games. 15 of his 26 starts last season were 6.0 IP or longer. In 2024, he's only made it 6 innings 3 times out of 12 starts. I hope he figures out what's going on in the minors. Otherwise, I think moving to the bullpen is inevitable.

Ashcraft has always been a power pitcher and now he's in a position where he can't always overpower people. He hasn't adapted enough(hence my love of watching Williamson progress last season) and he often looks like a guy trying put a square peg into a round hole. Williamson, Lodolo and Abbott are pitchers . . . Ashcraft is still just a thrower. Greene appears to have gotten it quicker than Ashcraft and also seems to have a stronger mental makeup.
His move to AAA instead of the bullpen says "We expect more injuries to come and we need you to stay stretched out as a starter." I'd love to see two long relievers in the pen, though. Martinez or Ashcraft coming in in the 6th might be 'night over' for the rest of the pen and keep them fresh so they can recover from their severe case of David Bell.

I now see either Dunn or Herd Of Bees being sent down for Williamson. I'd rather send down Benson or Fairchild to ensure that they get regular at bats and give the two new kids a chance to shine. The Colorado announcers were praising Dunn and said that he's almost as fast as De La Cruz. When/if one of them, fails . . . call up Benson or Fairchild, who will now be fresh off of 4 or 5 plate appearances a day for a week or two including probably quite a few DH days.

From MLB.Com
Over 161 career games, De La Cruz has 24 homers, 58 extra-base hits and 67 steals. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he's the only player since 1900 with those numbers posted within one year of his big league debut. https://www.mlb.com/news/elly-de-la-cruz-hits-home-run-one-year-after-making-mlb-debut

Now 26-1 when leading after 7 innings.
The Reds are 5-5 in the division 1-2 vs Mil, 1-2 vs StL and 3-1 vs Chi Again, watching the other teams broadcast, you learn some things about your team. David Bell is 7th all-time in games managed by a Reds manager. TJ Friedl has gone 734 plate appearances without hitting into a double play. In the post-game show, they were very impressed with Friedl turning on, and pulling, an inside, 97 MPH fastball for a go ahead, RBI double down the right field line. After referencing his fearlessness against the Wrigley Field wall as the replays of the RBI double were finishing, Joe Girardi said while shaking his head "That guy is a player." They said that the Reds have a winning record when he leads off but didn't show or say any other stats to back it up. Yesterday's game was the first of the season where Assad gave up more than 5 hits. He gave up 7 in 5.2 innings.

In 42 at bats vs. Lefties he's batting .095 He has 83 strike outs good for 2nd place in all of MLB. His defense isn't all that great. He has a good game every once in a while, but that's all. He's still only 25 years old so I suppose he could still hit his stride later. But I'm not banking on it, at all.
