In reality they are only 4 under and 2.5 out of a playoff spot which is hardly being "toast" already. You seem to forget we haven't seen McLain or Marte yet this season which have been big losses and being this close to .500 without them is actually impressive. Marte should be here by the end of the week.
May 3rd was the last time they didn't have a losing record.
We've been in 3rd or worse in the division after 72 of the 77 games this season.
We're 12th out of the 15 NL teams. There's 11 teams ahead of us for the 6 playoff spots. Only 5 of the 30 teams in MLB aren't "close" to being at least .500, but .500 gets you nothing. You need .556 to win 90 games and a ~.530 to have a decent (non-guaranteed) chance at playoffs even with the expanded wildcard.

Of course then they randomly score 3 and counting. Lol

Yup. It's pretty rough to watch a guy hit <.200 and strike out so much.

Benson has struck out 95 times in 211 at bats. That horrible

After todays loss, the Reds will be 36-41. They would need to play .635 in the remaining games to reach 90 wins. They would need to win 54 of the remaining 85 games. Really, does anyone see that happening, not even the big Red machine could get those numbers.

Well lets see they won 4 of 7 against both of the top 2 NL teams including a 3 game sweep of the Dodgers as well as an 8 game winning streak. Pretty clear sign that they can compete with anyone.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut, once in a while, but those days are over, they are 4-6 in last 10 days, with another lose today.

Even if the Reds only needed 86 wins, that means would would need to go 50-35 to get there, a .588 winning percentage.
I don’t see that happening, either.

Yeah didn't expect you to give them credit for beating the NL's best. You only come around to ***** and moan when they lose. Nowhere to be found when they win.

They swept the Dodgers a month ago in a great series for the Reds, but a week before that they went 1-3 against the Dodgers. Immediately before they swept the Dodgers they lost a series to the Padres (1 game over .500) and immediately after they swept the Dodgers they lost a series to the Cardinals (2 games over .500).
The White Sox (worst record in baseball) had a 3-1 series against the Guardians (3rd best record in baseball).
The Rockies (2nd worst record in baseball) won a series over the Phillies (best record in baseball).
The Athletics (4th worst record in baseball) won a series over the Orioles (4th best record in baseball).
At the end of the day you generally are who your record says you are. That's why 162 games are played. Most any team can have one good series against a superior team.

The fact of the matter is, they are not a team capable of playing over .500. And have no chance of playing 15 games over .500 the rest of the year to make the playoffs. They would have to do that in 85 games, 1/2 season. No way, no how.
And yes the swept the dodgers at home and lost 3 out of 4 in LA. So what’s your point. They beat the Phillies early when they weren’t playing well.
I give credit where credit is deserved, but this team doesn’t deserve any respect from me. Same old team.
Bell hasn’t won a playoff game, and hasn’t center scored a run in a playoff game. We have had good pitching, but this team can’t hit consistantly.

It's quite amazing that a regular player with 97 strike outs and a .192 batting average is still in the starting lineup every day. Just send 8 to the plate and take an automatic out.

Until you remember that just last year they let Luke Weaver make 21 starts for them with a 6.87 ERA while only reaching 5.0 innings pitched in 3 of his final 13 starts and failing to reach even 4.0 in 6 of those 13. The year before that Mike Minor made 19 starts with a 6.06 ERA, while Joel Kuhnel made 54 appearances with a 6.36 ERA and Reiver Sanmartin made 45 appearances with a 6.32 ERA. The year before that you had Amir Garrett and Heath Hembree.
The Reds have a long proud history of riding a blatantly losing hand for longer than any sane team would allow. It saves the FO money by not having to pay those guys to not play for you while also having to pay for new guys who could potentially be better.

And Marte is struggling in his rehab assignment too, hitting .143/.143/.163 over 49 at bats with 14 strikeouts, 0 walks and only 1 extra base hit (7 hits total).
Somehow, in just 49 ABs, he has grounded into 5 double plays and I believe his ground ball rate is 59% or so.
It's a small sample size and he may be more focused on just getting back in the groove of playing and he'll be fine in the majors, but it's concerning.
He may not be the savior for the offense that we were hoping for.

Awful baserunning cost Reds Game 2 and the series against Boston. Those are mental mistakes, and hard to accept losses due to not having their heads in the game. A very good high school coach who won State, would pull players out of games as punishment for mental mistakes. He said physical mistakes are going to happen, but mental mistakes or having your head up your rear end need some form of punishment. The baserunning Saturday by Reds lost that game. De La Cruz caught between 2nd and 3rd was a mental mistake. The Red who didn't slide and tagged out going into home standing up was a huge mental mistake. Awful baserunning lost Saturday and the series against Boston. Mental Mistakes. Not having their heads in the game.....How does Tom Hanks say it in that baseball movie. Get your head in the game, that thing a few feet above your butt.

Dang !!
I've been holding out hope that when Marte and eventually McClain return it will boost this offense a good bit. CES as well.

And the hits keep coming. Friedl is back on the IL with hamstring strain and IF/OF Levi Jordan has been called up.

Friedl is one of my favorite Reds. But damn he's turning into Tyler Eifert.

I think that this is more precautionary than anything else. Protect him from himself.
According to that link, Jordan's starting in RF and batting 8th do we'll get a good look at him right away until Bell pinch hits for him in the 6th or 7th inning. You get two plate appearances and then wait for a couple of days.
