Reds July Game Thread 2024
Hate David Bell as a manager so much. Put your starting pitcher into an inning with 97 pitches, with no intention of letting him finish the inning, so then you're bringing in a relief pitcher in with a runner on. Use 3 different pitchers in 1 inning only to put one of your bad pitchers in for the next inning.

Also why the hell is a guy OPSing .456 our DH? And why is our DH batting 7th? David Bell treating the DH like Dusty Baker treated the 1 and 2 spots in the batting order. A place to put a weak hitting guy to "get him going".

I have run out of words to describe the lethargic. Uninspired play by the Reds. 3rd loss in a row, with Atlanta up next, yikes.

Marte should not be your pinch hitter, when he’s batting .167, really. You have no one any better. Marte has been going down hill since his 1st game back. He does not deserve to tbe on major league roster.

Lodolo looked a month ago like he was heading right towards the #1 starter spot. Wow has he hit the wall, 14 runs allowed in last 4 games.

Hinds has went ice cold since his hot start. Marte is batting .171 and appears to be heading back to minors.

And yes Bell sucks as a manager.

Easiest thing to predict ever. I was rolling my eyes when people were saying Elly needed to learn from him.

Reds top-2 DH (by games played as DH) each of the three years the NL has had it and their OPS+...

2022
Mike Moustakas (76 OPS+)
Donovan Solano (99 OPS+)

2023
Tyler Stephenson (86 OPS+)
Christian Encarnacion-Strand (112 OPS+)

2024
Nick Martini (77 OPS+)
Mike Ford (13 OPS+)

.....yup, the only person who was at least average (100) out of the 6 was CES in 2023. They really just throw anyone and everyone struggling there. None of those 6 guys had at least 1.0 bWAR that season.

Honorable mentions to "WTF why were they DHs?" go to...
TJ Hopkins (9 OPS+, was our DH for 8 games in 2023)
Hunter Renfrow (18 OPS+, was our DH for 8 games in 2023)

Reds catch a big break going into the Atlanta series tomorrow. Max Fried their ace who was scheduled to pitch against us tomorrow was just placed on the 15 day IL with left forearm neuritis.

Don't know about that. Reds seem to play much better against the really good teams.

Swept by the Nationals. Pathetic. Back in last in the division and tied for the 3rd worst record in the NL now, with the team that just swept us.

Every player, coach and front office personnel, should be on the trade wire. This team is a bunch of under achievers, with no hope in sight.

Braves getting hit with the injury bug just as much as the Reds. Ozzie Albies fractured his wrist in the 9th inning today and is out 8 weeks.

There's a losing stink around Cincinnati sports teams right now. If this team repeats what it did LAST season after the ASB, David Bell should be shown the door. Like Timanky said, this team is full of UNDERACHIEVERS. One would think SOMEONE would pick up the slack. Especially the FA money man Candellario. Nope. Espinal was an All Star just last year iirc. And while he's been great w the glove, he's batting .200. Steer was the picture of consistency the past two years. This year? Not so much. Guys getting picked off on the base paths either being too aggressive or not paying attention. Undisciplined and underachieving.

I'm all for shit-canning the whole coaching staff at the end of the year, even the pitching coach if the new manager wants HIS guy. I'm tired of the Bells and the Boones and the Prices. Go get someone who knows what they're doing, commands enough respect throughout the league to put together HIS own staff, and stop filling out your minor league emergency call ups with bottom of the barrel players like Martini and Slater. The Reds season is over.

Time to get what you can for the rental players.

Frankie Montas for a new hotdog vendor.

Lamer Candellario for a new sign to put on the Toyota Tundra that will never be plunked by a HR.

Schwill Benson for a crate of urinal cakes.

Diaz to the Mets (to pair with his brother) for a tour of the ESB and Phil gets to work the elevator like a big boy.

Am I missing anyone or any THING we may want to get in return?

Benson might not have much going for him on offense but his defense has been incredible.
