If they were running more of what they sometimes do in Philly where they do a fullslide, almost like they are running outsize zone or a boot, and then Hurts can read the DE and keep or throw with a two way option it would make more sense. We don't really run a read version option from what I remember, so it must be more about the passing lanes. With the RPO there really is only one option to throw to usually, sometimes two but we don't usually do that, and that is usually a quick fill where the LB was so if a DE or OLB knows it's RPO I could see that being a pick (Potentially what TJ Watt has done to us a few times).
Maybe that's their concern with not biting on the running piece because if they just keep rushing they aren't getting to Joe because it's a quick hitter so they just stop and jump up.
The conversation was all about the rush end getting a shot on Joe. An RPO the linemen block like a running play. If the rush end plays it pass all the way it could be a big whiff and almost free shot. I think that’s the thinking.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

With RPOs the Edge doesn't really get a chance at Joe unless he messes up the read even if the Edge defender is pass rushing from the snap. QB run options tag the edge defenders. Boot Playaction is a straight up pass play with no run option the purpose is to fake the defense into flowing the opposite direction to the QB and Reveiver.

In the interview between Orlando and Kay Adams, Brown mentions the Pistol formation. I was thinking, I don't believe I have ever seen Joe in Pistol. Maybe a new wrinkle this year.

That would know. He said they are worried about the DE in running RPO’s. Not from a success but from protecting Joe. You can slice and dice it from there. Didn’t go into detail.
I understand what you're saying from the little I've read in this thread. At least from the college game, the DE is a big part. Ohio State has/had the same issues regarding their run game with both Stroud for two years and last years QB that simply would never run the ball themselves and, more importantly, rarely would tuck/pull the ball back out and sprint out to make plays. When it looked like a run play it was almost always. It allowed the backside DE to rarely have to play on his heels and simply allowed another defender into the box.

I really think there is some confusion between a read option and an RPO going on in this thread. In an RPO, the DE isn't a big part. He is blocked like a run play because it is a run play. The QB has a read man he is looking at, typically a linebacker or safety. If they flow with the running play, the QB pulls it out and throws the ball behind him. If they don't, he gives it to the running back.
For read options, the defensive end is often left unblocked and he is the read man. The QB reads the end and if he crashes down the LOS, the QB pulls it and runs it. If the DE stays home, he hands it off to the RB.

I know. It would suck to lose him. I have high hopes for him. It feels like it's taken too long for them to say anything about him. Makes me think it's pretty serious.

I could only imagine how great Burrow could be with Boomer Esiason's play action ability.

Sure hope not, not hearing anything about McKinnley is starting to concern me myself.

Even if he was 3/4th of Boomer that would move our offense up

Well that is pretty accurate but it still could Be DE in RPO depending on defense alignment since RPO is not read option.

Really wish they could find the money to pay Higgins and Chase. Higgins signing the franchise and showing up for practice when he could have waited until the first game to sign really makes me pull for the guy.

Seeing Burrow under center and moving well is amazing..............
I'm getting more and more excited about the season!
I need to get to training camp again and also to the casino to place bets on the season!
Anybody coming through Northern Kentucky and going to camp that wouldn't mind picking me up?!

Tee's been great. He could have been disruptive last year as he was entering his final year, but you didn't hear a peep. All you heard this year is "If you don't want to pay me trade me". IDt there's one ounce of Diva in the dude's body and a guy you really want to root for.
