First Team - Sheldon Rankins
Second Team - Jay Tufele
Third Team - McKinnley Jackson
Defensive Tackle
First Team - BJ Hill
Second Team - Zach Carter
Third Team - Kris Jenkins
Not not really sure what to make of Rankins as the nose lol and I know Carter has been taking second Team DT snaps but ugh.

Interesting, kind of hard to make anything out of this at this point. Trent Brown being named the starting RT is not really a
surprise, but the guy cannot even really practice yet. I think both McKinnley Jackson and Kris Jenkins should make their way
up the depth chart as Preseason goes on. The thing about Sheldon Rankins is he CAN stop the run and he CAN play NT as he
did with the Jets when they were a top 3 run stopping Defense.
I have no faith in Zach Carter, so Kris Jenkins should make his way up to backup BJ if he works hard enough. Tufele was good
when he initially got here but he wasn't good last year. Hoping Ossai finally shows up and stays healthy, we will see.
Also think Burton will be WR3 when the regular season starts, he just tweaked his ankle at a bad time.

It appears vets are getting early nods due to experience.
I see a healthy Brown starting week 1. I see Irwin or Jones starting in slot also. But if Yoshi keeps improving, I can see him lined up outside, Higgins lined up outside and Chase in the lost at times. It appears this group of WR's can play multiple positions. I can see Burton over time being our #1 slot receiver, but he has to get healthy and missing valuable snaps in camp is not good for any rookie WR and more so going against a talented WR room.
I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

I thought the first depth chart was usually based on years in the league?
Seeing the rookies so far down on the depth chart never surprises me because of that assumption.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Iv been telling people to prepare for Irwin to start over Burton at least to start the year.
Irwin isn’t as sexy as Burton but he knows the assignments for all the WR spots, has sure hands and has veteran saavy.
I think it was underestimated how big of a lead Irwin started with, this offseason at that WR3/slot position
Honestly if Irwin was faster he’d easily be my pick
Also keep in mind we’ll
Rotate guys a lot as Zac has done the past 4 years so even if Irwin starts i imagine Yoshi, Jones and Burton get good snap count in

No way Zac Carter is gonna win DT3 job over Jenkins and McKinley. He is what he’s going to be and i think both our rookies are better
This depth chart must just be so they can say they submitted one to thr league

He was always DJ’s replacement but I think McKinley Jackson replaces him situationally.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

He’s lost 15 pounds hear he looks good.

Well I hope Jackson just had cramps today.
If those two - especially Jenkins - can't unseat the veterans that they are a bust. I also have no faith in Zach Carter. He was terrible last year. Considering that Frazier, the center from WVA was there I will be really angry if Jenkins isn't pretty special.
I also hate that Trey Hill is even on the roster. Hoping Lee can definitively bump him. Baaahhhhh!!! I hate initial depth charts!

I wouldn't get real broke up about this first one. There will be changes.

The idea that young players can't improve is crazy, Carter is in hospital his 3rd year which is normally the key year for improvement, let's see how preseason goes.

Drew Sample and Brad Robbins listed as starters make me sad.
If Dax Hill doesn't win the starting job, I think we might have to break out the title of "Bust". First round picks that have to change positions and are backups in their third year certainly qualify.

With two draft choices at TE and three veterans signed in front of them, this looks like a misprint for a two TE setup instead of a three WR setup.
Replace Irwin with Gesicki and that looks closer to what I've been expecting long before Boyd moved on.

Yep, preseason depth charts are pretty much meaningless.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

They also use depth charts this early to help motivate/keep motivating players which also includes veterans. 2-3 bad plays in the early scrimmage games by one player and a couple good plays by another can take a guy down to 2nd-3rd team.

Haven't heard anything except that McKinnley's problems maybe were heat related like you say, cramps. Sure hope so.
We will see, Carter was pretty terrible last year even if he worked hard and gained a lot of muscle. Kris Jenkins will work his ass off and might
have the strength and get off that we need at 3-tech. I liked Frazier too, so yes, Jenkins better play decent for us. Matt Lee could definitely bump
Trey Hill as Lee is a very good pass protector. Needs to get into the weight room and work on his run blocking.

Anyone getting worked up over the rookies being at the bottom of the depth chart need to go look at the prior years.
Bengals always (or nearly at least) put the rookies at the bottom to start. Some end up climbing up as the preseason progresses, and some even get into a starter role by the start of the season.
The depth chart around Labor Day is the one to care about, not the one a month before.

If Joe is playing in preseason games, you can bet that he will have the full compliment of vets around him.

I've been worried about DT since Reader left. Really feel like we need to add another veteran piece to the rotation. Hopefully we see a trade before the season starts to get another guy in here.
