53 man roster projection
(08-27-2024, 05:18 PM)BengalBob Wrote: Congrats to Duke Tobin and staff getting all 10 picks plus a couple of UDFA's on the initial 53 man roster.

A major infusion of young talent and easily the best roster of the Burrow era.

I mean...it's only a congrats if they actually do well lol.
Someone can make the roster and be absolutely terrible.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins

Sorry for Party Rocking!

So objectively if the Bengals are carrying 5 TEs into week 1 its kinda on the unexpected side. The Bengals have been a heavy 11 personnel team since Zac Taylor came to Cincy. I felt they ran more 12 this pre-season but they still used 11 personnel on 76% of their snaps this pre-season which was 7th overall.

Murphy is on IR and Tufele made the 53.

I wish we were deep enough at DT to have seen the last of Zach Carter, but alas.

True. But we carried 4 last year. 2 of them are effectively slot WRs (Gesicki & Hudson). With the new KO rules, I think we wanted more guys who are bigger but still mobile (nimble edges, TEs, LBs). The injuries/retirements hurt the DE room, so they went with more TE's & LBs.

J. Davis was the casualty. A slot specific corner. Newton, Anthony, and D. Hill have more versatility. Ivey as well. Davis is a vested vet, so no waivers. Could be a PS guy.

DL is the weakest spot. Losing Sample (a good run stopper), Murphy, Gunter, and a hobbled Hubbard is a lot. And Jackson is also out, our only true NT.

I am still sore about letting Reader walk, especially with the new IR/53 man rules. I do like Jenkins and Jackson. But NT would be at the top of my waiver wire list, with Tufele or Carter getting bumped.

Maybe but that TE5 is probabaly just a place holder for 24 hours.

I was really hoping Carter would work out. I met his aunt last year at Busch Gardens in Tampa and she was so excited that he went to the Bengals.

I guess it's good news none of the injured went on IR.... yet.

Carter's job was saved as soon as Sample went down.

How many teams have 10 draft picks plus 2 rookie FA's make their roster? This is a great look from an article on the Bengals website. We may hit the waiver wire so not set in stone, but he a very young team again.

https://www.bengals.com/news/bengals-2024-roster-cuts-rookies-fire-a-depth-charge

With a rookie class that took over the back of the 53-man roster that was unveiled Tuesday, the Bengals kept that delicate balance of youth and experience that has made them one of the NFL's winningest teams over the last three seasons.

The average age is 25.8, even younger than last season's 25.95, when Elias rated them with the third-youngest active Opening Day roster in the NFL.

But the Bengals also have their most 30-year-olds in a couple of seasons, led by two on the offensive line in 31-year-olds Ted Karras and Trent Brown.

All ten draft picks made it, as well as rookie free agents Maema Njongmeta, a linebacker from Wisconsin, and punter Ryan Rehkow of BYU.

But injuries could alter the roster as soon as Wednesday, when the Bengals could tap the waiver wire to get a little bit healthier for the Sept. 8 opener against the Patriots.
When they put defensive end Myles Murphy (knee) on injured reserve-return, that left them with only four edge players. Also on the IR-return list is punter Brad Robbins (hip). They're eligible to return after the fourth week.

They could still pick up a RB and let a TE go before the season, but for today's moves this doesn't surprise me.

Grats to Lee and Kirkland supplanting Carman and Hill from the roster.

I'm a bit surprised they're rolling with a 5th safety over a 6th CB, but that's probably only until Ivey is ready to return.

Yes, they both showed enough to unseat a couple of guys who each had a few years to prove themselves worthy of keeping around. Both Lee and Kirkland need some solid development before I would be comfortable with either of them in an actual game, but sometimes a rotation of shelf stock is in order.

The real fly in the ointment is that he passed his physical and was cleared for football activities already. Bengals should have signed him.

My way too early roster prediction after the draft had 11 rookies. And I thought that was a shocker. 12 is wild.

I like it. Hopefully it means we are getting better at identifying talent and drafting. Seems to me like they have been getting better since Zac’s first draft class. Hopefully Mike Brown is done interfering/picking if Carman was really on him.

If this is really the most talented team we have had since Zac has been here and we have 12 rookies on it. The future is bright.

Doubt it. They certainly weren't going to leave All and McLachlan off the 53 and Risk having another team pluck them off the PS. Would have been more surprising if we didn't have 5 TE on the 53.

You nailed it. I guess great drafting keeps our window open with a healthy Joe Burrow. The WR room is interesting, the addition of Burton and then two second year WR's. I hope Higgins and Chase stay, but we do have a lot of potential in the WR room.

Zac got hired so late because of Rams SB then had to hire a staff his imprint was minimal his first year. Plus he had never been around it.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I like our LB,CB, S core, but there's nothing like a good DL to disrupt an offense.
