Let's hear it for Keith Rucker, DT from Ohio Wesleyan. He was signing autographs before a game a few years ago. When I told him I too was a Battling Bishop, he got so excited he wrote a paragraph on my hat.
Obscure Bengals, who ya got?

He's also Italian and despite having a Jewish mother, was NOT raised Jewish and was raised Catholic, which is the first instance I have EVER seen where a celebrity has rejected Judaism (not a big deal, just a weird factoid lol). Finding out he and Lanny were indeed Italian put a huge smile on my face, that day

He was part of a colourful dline in '94, when it came to colleges: He went to Ohio Wesleyan Alfred went to Colorado Copeland went to 'bama Krumrie to Wisconsin Stallings to SDSU Artie Smith to Louisiana Tech Ty Parten to Arizona Wilkinson to OSU Frier to Appalachian State Kimo to Boise St Aside from the 2 B10 guys, I think each other is from a different conference (at the time), lots of diversity.

Tough thread for me to think of a name because I've recognized most names mentioned.
I was going to submit Donald Hollas, QB. He was with the Bengals during some of the early '90s dark years. I looked up his stats. He threw for 645 yards which is 7 more yards than Ryan Finely. Hollas, however, played in 20 games compared to Finley's 8. When looking at yards thrown the ranking is Hollas (26th), Finely (27th), and then Dewey Warren (28th) at 506 passing yards. I've never heard of Dewey Warren, QB so that is my obscure Bengal. Edit - FUN FACT: Ja'Marr Chase is last on the Bengals career passing yards list at 75th place with -7 yards thrown.

My favorited obscure Bengal... Corey Lynch
selected in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the kid who blocked Michigan's FG Attempt to give Appalachian State the miracle win in 2007

Sandro Vitiello kicked for one game played crappy and they cut him the next day and signed Breech

On a similar note, anyone remember his predecessor, Ian Sunter? Jeff Thomason was a tight end who played a bit on the awful 1992-93 teams. He hung around the league for years and was on the Eagles 2004 Super Bowl team.

He was always my LT in Madden '98, he, Willie and Brilz I never traded, but I would fling Scott Brumfield (another Obscure) and whomever was at RG (can't for the life of me remember who is the default RG in the game, it isn't someone who played regularly with us) immediately for Matt O'Dwyer and a RG.

Thinking back, I think Kevin Sargent is listed at RG in Madden '98, for some reason. He was always a T for us, so that was weird. Another Obscure Bengal: Scottie Graham. Not a world beater with his other teams, he was decent elsewhere, but only suited up for a handful of games with us. Also, my favourite pick for CIN/DAL on Immaculate Grid, Stepfret Williams! Obscure just for the name alone! |
