Dax Hill is a certified bum

Yeah he’s not a star yet. He’s right on the fence tho.

Now that i think about it since we lost Reader, we are the only AFCN team without a superstar on defense

Trey H does his job well but i can’t view him as a star because he’s so unbelievably one dimensional. He pass rushes….THATS IT. He pass rushes on run plays…yeah you read that right.

Dax is certainly deserving of the grief he gets, but he's a guy that's been miscast from day 1. He's a slot corner IMO. He's not a safety that can hols down single high coverage like Bates did. Square peg round hole. He's really never been a boundary corner until this year. Square peg, rounder hole.

The team drafted him as a BPA athlete. He bears responsibility, but they're done a poor job of getting him into a position to succeed.

Dude would whiff and miss tackles just as much in the slot. He’s not good.

I thought Dax did pretty well in pass coverage, he just forgot how to tackle.

Duke and Zac really need to start hitting on some of these picks after paying Burrow. And the one they did actually hit on in Tee they won’t even pay. Fun times.

Been hearing all about how awesome these other WRs are on the roster... Two of em even have nicknames. They all suck.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

How bad is the rest of our secondary if from what I read on PFF is correct (which many strongly go by on here) had him rated the highest rating in the secondary?

They were plenty bad yesterday, that’s for sure. The tackling was atrocious, and Stone dropped a pick. Hill’s sack likely bumped up his overall grade, but look at his tackling and run defense numbers.

Yes down in those two areas but tops in two others which is why he comes out with a higher grade so a mix bag then, he was tops in coverage and prsh (which i have no clue what that is).  I don;t think Turner would have made much of a difference looking at his scores from PFF perspective

Indeed.

Where have these people been?

Bengals start out like crap every year under Zac, then gel and make a run. I feel much better about this year, than having gimpy Joe with a jacked up calf last year.

Relax.

Have a beer, if you're legally allowed to and it doesn't mess with any of your medications.

Enjoy some football.

Seriously? Good lord. Let's at least get to the halfway mark before we get crazy. I'm pissed too. I get it. But we start this way every year. Game tape will show how bad we suck. Then the Chiefs will really hand us one massive ass whipping. Maybe then, we get it together. Who knows, but damn, week one? Don't be that guy.

It’s like in basketball they ask did you really complete a defensive possession if you didn’t get the rebound?

Were you really decent in coverage if you missed all your 1 on 1 tackles? I’d say no. Even if you stuck dudes like glue if you missed every tackle then imo you were trash in coverage. But that’s just me.

So you don’t think Chuck Sizzle and Yoshi are the new Boyd and Higgins?

The Bengals likely never planned to use Dax primarily as a starting boundary Corner when they Drafted him as a Safety in 2022.

Dax showed an elite level ability to Blitz in College with 4.38 speed. His blitzing is what really stood out on Film.

The Bengals Organization has chosen to rely on Dax as a boundary Corner starter for 2024 which to me makes it all on them.

The Patriots receivers are not as formidable as many other receiver Groups in the NFL that Dax will be seeing as the year progresses.

Hopefully Dax can build up with experience at the position game by game in 2024 and become more of an asset by Playoff time.

The Bengals had the offseason to maybe do something different here but chose to go with the Group of Corners they have now.

An Achilles Heel decision for a Team wanting a Super Bowl run ?   -OR-   Will Bengal decision makers end up looking smart here ?

I said same thing after last years loss. And I was right.

To me it’s Super Bowl or bust. I only need 2 games to know. Next week is KC. Tell me we’re not going to be 0-2?

Yeah, that's most likely just you. I judge pass coverage by how well they cover the pass. Most likely just not me.

I do not really think it is his decision since most of our defense tries to strip the ball and not get the guy on the ground. I think it is coached to the defense another reason we give up so many first downs/yards.

Dax needs to start tackling the legs he is bouncing off guys when he hits them high.

Agree on all points, but when in this era have the boundary corners that were legit studs?  Lou has had an elite safety tandem and also one of the better slot corners in the league.  The boundary guys have ranged from pretty good to scrap heap.  Awuzie had a good year or two, but IMO declined last year.  CTB was an excellent pick, but certainly not elite.  Apple held things down for a long time despite his shortcomings.

IMO, at it's best, Lou's defenses are built to bend but not break.  They give up lots of yards but hold scoring to a minimum.  They are constructed to keep great teams from putting up 30 in January.  IMO they did this with the expectation that the offense would be hanging 30 on the entire league week in and week out.  They're never going to be like the other teams in the division, because ideally the offense is supposed to take some pressure off of them.
