Has ZT become too much of a players coach?

At least in the sense that I don’t remember a coach who’s been this loose, this consistently, who’s won the big prize. At some point he’s gonna need to put his foot down. Has he done that? Maybe, but I haven’t seen (or even heard) anything that would suggest that he has, and that could pose a problem down the road. It’s a fine balance- but it needs to be a balance. I don’t think it’s healthy to sit on one extreme (buddy) or the other (tyrant).

because you have not seen it does not mean that its not happening

One point I want to make is we can say it's a personnel issue because the drafted guys suck...but were they bad picks? Or did the coaches not develop them because of soft practices, etc?

That is a good point, definitely one worth discussion. As to my opinion on that question, I feel like it's some of each. Around the league we've seen many guys over the years that were really good, even in some cases superstars at the collegiate level who turn out to just not be able to cut it in the NFL. Conversely, I also feel that a drop in overall team quality occurs from the reduced number of padded practices and sitting starters through preseason. Sure, it cuts down on some injuries before the season starts, but the drop off in OL cohesiveness and body tempering attained from going hard in practice/preseason games is leading to slow starts on offense and injuries to defenders when the live action begins.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

No he just thinks he's the smartest person in the room when he usually is the opposite.

Well, if he does your going to have an unhappy locker room full of players when he tells them there will be no more "Pancake Tuesday's" going forward!

The Bengals have one of the smallest scouting departments in the NFL.  They dont seem to do as well as other teams drafting and this was happening long before Zac Taylor got here.  I think its mainly a front office problem.  I dont think you can blame the coaches for bad scouting because they spend most of their time coaching the players and preparing for the next game.

I don't know who that is, but everyone knows the REAL taskmaster is Kevin "The Prince Of Darkness" Sullivan.

Whatever you do... do NOT start watching the show "Taskmaster" available on YouTube.  It is extremely addicting!

Here's just a little sample...

he took us to the superbowl 3 years ago...he took us to the conference championships 2 years ago..and had burrow not been injured last year..we most likely would have been in the playoffs..pretty damn impressive..now to the "slow starts"..I still dont understand that
