The Bengals need to suck it up, break the norm and make a damn trade

I know I know, but the Bengals don't make trades during the season (or ever, really).

Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. A little urgency would go a long way here. If this organization has really "changed" the way that they operate (they haven't) then they need to suck it up and trade a pick or two for some defensive line help. They just have to.

Yes the defensive line is about to get a bit healthier, but it's still not good enough.

How about trading the Dolphins for Calais Cambell? He's had a pretty good year so far and surely it wouldn't take too much to pluck him away from the Dolphins and their tanking season. A cheap vet on a one year deal is about as good as we can ask for.

Do it front office. Make a damn move and salvage what was supposed to be a Super Bowl season before its too late.

They might do something, but they never HAVE to do anything. Mike Brown could trade Burrow straight up for Zach Wilson and he'd still be our GM for the rest of his life.

It is not just the Bengals; it appears very few trades happen after week 1 until the trade deadline. I was watching the Phins and thought Campbell would be a cheap trade option, maybe a 6th round pick. But Miami needs to be willing.

Teams do not want to send a message to their team nor their fans they are quitting in week #5. I would look at the Jags DL, they are 0-4 and in deep crap. But I am not sure they have anyone on their DL that would make a huge impact other than Hines - Allen. Armstead maybe a player the Bengals should make a call, but he is a tackle. Walker is the other starting DE, but only 25 and 1st round pick so unlikely they would trade him.

Simply, it is hard to find trade partners. But if Raiders are willing to possibly trade D. Adams, maybe they would trade Crosby. Crosby matched with Trey would be a dynamic combo. I guess we can dream.

Rare do you see teams trading in 4th week of year. They have the same record as us, they are not going to throw in the towel at this point, the smart thing would be to trade him with a draft pick to a team with a decent backup QB , Tua should be back probably week 8 it looks like..

If the deal is makes sense,then ,I could see the Bengals making said deal. 3 guys I think the Bengals would consider Milton Williams DT from Philly, NT Bobby Brown from LA Rams,  and S Andre Cisco from the Jaguars.

defensive line might be getting healthier..maybe in a couple of weeks..but  lose to Baltimore ...starting off 1-4..its over ..sadly..I think it was a perfect storm of disaster with the bengals D line and injuries..I just dont know what to say
..maybe this defense surprises everyone this week...if not we can watch some of our rookies getting alot of playing time as we prepare for next season

At this point in the season trades are often for draft picks.  I don't have stats but overall it seems there are very few player for player trades these days overall and most seem to involve draft picks instead.  I'm not saying the Bengals should give any picks up though.

Which is why trades don’t happen as a league right now. No one wants to tell their team and fan base they are sellers as everyone is mathematically still in it. If we can survive a few more weeks we could be buyers but it’s wishful thinking for folks that think a team is making a trade at this point for basically any fan base. The only caveat to this would be a disgruntled player like a Reddick or Davante Adam’s type situation.

We are getting into one of the biggest trade months of the year as the trade deadline is Nov. 5th.  So there will probably be some action after the next few weeks or so.  Last October 2023 was a heavy trade year with 15 trades.   The recent years prior were around 7-8 trades but some notable ones like McCaffrey in 2022.

But historically in October trades over the last few years the Bengals in 2020 got B.J. Finney and a 2021 7th round pick from the Seahawks in exchange for Dunlap.  Finney's only appearance with the Bengals was on November 15, 2020 against the Steelers.

Also that looks like the only October trade the Bengals have made since 2011 when they traded Palmer to the Raiders.

The defense? Yes, you are the only one who thinks they have seen this happen.

Having the 27th scoring defense after 4 weeks isn't just a "typical slow start". 

In 2023 we started out giving up 23.5 per week in the first 4, finished with the 21st scoring defense at 22.6.
In 2022 we started out giving up 17.5 per week in the first 4, finished with the 6th scoring defense at 20.1.
In 2021 we started out giving up 18.75 per week in the first 4, finished with the 17th scoring defense at 22.1.
In 2020 we started out giving up 24.75 per week in the first 4, finished with the 22nd scoring defense at 26.5.
In 2019 we started out giving up 27.5 per week in the first 4, finished with the 25th scoring defense at 26.3.

We've never vastly improved our season scoring defense compared to our first four games. Our best improvement was 2019 where it was the first year of installing the system, and that was just 1.2 points per game better. If we matched that this year that would put us at 24.8, or currently the 25th scoring defense in the NFL. That's not touching the fact that 3 of the 5 years we've actually gotten WORSE not better with the whole season, and those are significant decreases.

One dude I would consider trading for is Kyle Pitts. It's just never really clicked for him in ATL even though he had 1,000 yeards his rookie season. This past week he had as many catches and yards as I did this past Sunday. Maybe Cousins wants a more polished TE such as Mikey G.

Duke is very reluctant to trade. He's mentioned multiple times that he's not in the business to make other teams better. Back in 2019, the team got calls about some of our vet players since our season was lost. Dunlap and Eifert were mentioned. The FO wouldn't budge and held onto them. I wouldn't expect to see a trade any time soon.
