Fire Zac Taylor right now..
(8 hours ago)Fan_in_Kettering Wrote: Yes.  We are.  Zac stupidly trotted out an injured Joe Burrow for the first few games of the season before the bad injury against the Ravens.

We have to lose the mindset that if our main quarterback goes down, the season is automatically lost. I used to think that way as well but when I realized that’s Mike Brown’s philosophy I rethought the whole issue.

ZT playing Burrow those first few games....lordy.  Either ZT has no idea how to gauge the health and ability of his QB, has no idea how to get a backup ready or has no ability to judge the ability of Browning (who ended up being better than a decimated Burrow...go figure) or he wanted to sit Burrow and he was cowed into compliance by someone else, or he just figured "screw it, I can't win without Burrow out there, so it's worth the risk."  No aspect of that looks good.  Add in that playing a hurt starting QB out of desperation is something a HC who is on the hot seat would do and we all know ZT is here for a long time.  I still can't wrap my head around this other than the simple idea that ZT is just being reckless with a gift he was handed.

The Bengals have had 29 games end between 3 points or less in the Zac Taylor era

They've won 9 of them

Bad teams constantly lose those games. They aren’t blown out every time.

Now take away the first 2 rebuilding years and see how much higher the percentage goes

He's saying Joe checked to a run when he called a pass, but we came out in run formation against a heavy box.  If Joe was checking out of a bad look, it would have been to a pass, not the opposite.

Maybe it was a play action pass and Burrow figured with the defense, the end result would be a sack or worse? That's off the top of my head how things lined up with what exactly they said. Then again, I'm not trying to twist someone's words or a situation to fit my agenda.

Zac and his game management is reason we lost 4th and 1 own 39 down 7 we punt while Ravens coach goes for it up 7 own 29 4th and 1. The last 3 play calls in OT were beyond horrible you not going to trust you're top 10 NFL QB with 2 great receivers too make 1 more pass to make the FG a little closer that is just negligence.

You sure? Haven't they been throwing more out of 12 and jumbo at times this year? One of the patented quick hitters that get blown up?

That was incredibly botched by him....no question.

Okay, but the Ravens were playing the worst defense and the worst rushing defense. The Bengals were not. Not to mention, we STILL almost won but for a botched hold on a FG.

I would rather pass the ball and try to get a TD, if not an easier FG, but "beyond horrible"? No. Not to mention your "top 10 NFL QB" and elite WR, combined for an INT on a drive earlier. Again, i would've still passed the ball, but there's understandable reasons for the playcalling in OT and, again, we win if not for a botched hold.

Making the playoffs is not a high standard. 10 wins has made the playoffs every time in the last 3 years. You have a top 5 QB and a top 5 WR1. Even a mediocre roster should win 10 games with that.

Maybe the group consultation for offensive play calling is not working. Maybe leave it up to the OC.

Now give Burrow to Marvin, and Andy to Zac. We saw what Zac did without Burrow. 4-28-1. Hue Jackson territory, if you're nasty.

Surely our analytics guy should be able to talk too Taylor and let him know his mistakes which led to this loss.

Before the season I was with you on this. However, 3 straight games of 30 or more points and averaging 28 points per game which puts us 5th in the league at scoring (and that's including the NE game), I don't think it's right to say that offensive play calling is not working.

Marvin already had Palmer and still couldn't win a playoff game.

Meanwhile, last season with Browning as the starting QB, Bengals went 4-3. (Which also begs the question of your numbers there. I know Zac didn't go winless before Burrow and had 4 wins without Burrow last year soooooooooooooooo ...)

Look at the teams he was playing against and their QB. 4-3 isn't that impressive when you do

We beat a Jags team that didn't win another game that season
We beat a Colts team with their backup QB
We beat a Vikings team with their backup QB
We beat a Browns team that sat everyone because they gained nothing from a win

We have waaaay more talent everywhere against the teams that were basically in free fall and wanting to have a better draft.

Rolleyes

Okay, which of the teams that Burrow played should we take away because they weren't impressive. I just want to make it fair.

Marvin was 4-12 with a game Palmer, Ocho, TO, Fresh, etc. But you know what he didn't have much of that year? Blocking. What was going on in Cincinnati on the offensive line from 2017-2022?

Also, give Marvin Joe Montana in the post season, doesn't matter. He had four different QBs in the playoffs and went 0-7. His teams were always too tight in pressure situations, regardless of quarterback, and it bit them in the ass.
