Can anybody tell me why?

Overthinking and worried about the what-if passing the ball.
What if Burrow gets a sack and they get out of FG range?
What if the Bengals turn the ball over either with an INT or FF?

I'm confident Taylor and crew felt good with McPherson being able to hit 53 yards with his leg.
I don't think they accounted the possibility the snap/hold could go bad.

They need to be fired for not thinking that’s a possibility.

Yes

But why not try and get closer with your "A" game, passing? Against the worst D in the league vs. the pass. Instead of just saying screw it lets run it against the best run defense in the league and just lay down and rely on an always somewhat risky 50+ yard FG.

Yes

Why take the ball out of our HOT RODs hand and give it to someone else?

We ran three offensive plays after we recovered the fumble at the Ravens 37 and got all the way down to the 35  Shocked

We ran all 3 plays from heavy sets. And not a single pass despite JB having an outstanding day!! On the 1st play the Ravens have 9 defenders in the box. Everyone of them crashes to the LOS at the snap. J. Chase has a very soft coverage.

A half second after the snap there's a wiidddddeeeeee open middle of the field. If Chase runs a quick slant and it was a play action fake to Brown it's probably a TD. At a minimum a good gain. Of course JB would have to throw quickly.

I just can't understand why you have Joe Burrow for crying out friggin loud! And the coaches say screw that, put the Lamborghini away, lets get out the Honda civic and just get a couple yards a try a long FG.

And this isn't the first time ZT and Co. have been guilty of this. ML 2.0
ZT reasoning is sound.  Passing in that situation, even by a hot QB is risky for a turnover. You play it safe and let you stud kicker win the game.  You can't blame the coaching on poor execution by players.  You practice special teams daily and have 100's if not 1000s of reps.  The problem is defense.  It is mind boggling.  I don't blame Lou like some on here.  He doesn't have the right personnel.

Don't get me wrong. I'm in the camp of wanting Burrow slinging the ball and trying to get a TD there. I'm just saying I understand the reasons for playing for the FG there.

Let's say ZT was more aggressive on play calling and Burrow threw INT.  Some would point and say, "why not just run the ball and let your stud kicker win the game?"

Zac Taylor is a coward in crunch time.

He plays not to lose rather than playing to win.

And, unfortunately, much like running the prevent defense in a non-blowout (the defensive form of being a coward in crunch time), the former occasionally results in (and may even positively correlate with) losing.

No they wouldn't.

They'd say, "Don't throw the interception there."

And we were only in position to kick because of a Ravens snap issue. And I have said before, if they thought the kick was doable, why not try earlier? If there is a mistake ( just like what happened ) they could just cover the ball and have another down.

But then the next attempt would be from 60 yards

I'm going to blame Lou for not trying something a little different against Washington....and maybe some play calls here and there, but you're right, most of this is on the front office or whoever is in charge of personnel.

Guarantee you they would be blasting him for "not taking the points" there. Fans are too predictable. Just like Dalton would be getting blamed for that interception costing the game if he had identical numbers. Since it was Joe .....then it's gotta be Zac's fault. Truth is, it's the defense's fault, and it has been all year long. They are awful.

That feels a little harsh.

If this season ends up coming down to just this Ravens game deciding whether the Bengals end up making the playoffs or not though, there may be more reason to point to this particular decision in OT.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

You certainly never know and we are one of the best at the big play. I'm just saying the team wouldn't have been drawing up plays to score a TD, you're ideally playing for a chip shot FG in OT. But of course, would've been great had one of the plays gone all the way.

He has hit from there before. Or you punt. Beats giving it to the Ravens from where the kick was from, like we did or having it blocked. Maybe you go for it on fourth. Thing is, you have choices if the hold goes to shit on third down. Still a time out to discuss what to do. Instead, the ball went vertical .000001 seconds before Evan kicked it, and nearly the holder's finger, and missed. Yesterday, as soon as the ball slipped, there was no turning back.

Shouldn’t he be fired, if it doesn’t? Means we are even worse than expected.

Chase is one of the best at the big play. Everyone else rushing and receiving are not...

2024 Bengals plays of 40+ yards: 5
2024 Chase plays of 40+ yards: 4

Higgins/Yoshi/Gesecki are all not really YAC guys, which limits their big play ability because you're not generally throwing 40+ air yards prior to the catch. They catch the ball and that's just pretty much right near all that they're going to get.
