Zac's Prevent Offense

There's no excuse for this 8 quarter shit show with this roster all while MN, DT, KC, & WAS continues to get so much more out of less.

This is the truth.  Zac's offense is predicated by the WRs winning on every play, thus why our offense is not good without Tee.  If we have only Chase, the defense can easily bracket, cloud, or even triangulate one side of the field.

I remember 2 years ago against the chiefs in the regular season, Zac made a gutsy call to ice the game. It was a pass over the middle to Higgins. Bengals were in field goal range

Like I said, I think this comes from not having a legit 3rd option the team is comfortable with. Gesicki? Yoshi? They’re not adequate 3rd options

I don't disagree with the Bengals receiving options. Would love to see a 3rd option step up. Although the last couple weeks it hasn't helped to see Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and this guy...

Wish they’d start sprinkling in Burton, even if his route tree isn’t ready (or whatever reason he hasn’t been seeing the field). Zac was so fired up to draft the kid and he’s been buried all preseason and almost midway through the regular season. Geseki ain’t it. Yoshi is situational at best. Our other TEs are either poor pass catchers (Sample) or rookies (All Jr. and a weekly inactive McC) that can’t be relied upon yet. Why not use Burton for clearing out underneath stuff? So what if a defense knows he’s only out there running three routes, when his ball tracking and long ball catching was ELITE coming out of college? He still needs to be accounted for, whether the play is going to him or if he’s simply being used to scheme the underneath guys easy catches. Something no other receivers besides Chase and Tee possess currently.

Garrett had only one pressure yesterday...?

He was eating Ford. Bengals just utilized quick passing to offset it

Regardless, we obviously chipped and doubled well enough.

I wouldnt say that well. The offense overall was below their standards, and I think Garrett going up against Ford was the main reason for it.

But we intercepted with 4:03 left with a 21-6 lead at the Cleveland 30. Already in FG range to seal the game. An 18 point lead under 4 minutes is the goal here as they burned all 3 timeouts. Seems strategic to me. Of course he misses. But still they have no timeouts. They have to score twice and make a 2 point conversion with no timeouts in under 4 minutes. This game he was right. McPherson not making the field goal was the only flaw here.

I think this is a legit argument in favor of Zac.

No doubt that if Burrow drops back on 1st down and throws a tipped pick, fans are yelling 'why didn't you just run and kick for a 18pt lead?'.

It worked out. It just didn't "feel" as good, because of the final score. I'm still not even close to a fan of his play calling though.

That’s it. Talent. With Zac, even superior talent isn’t enough. People still recall how awful he was at UC, I assume.

Tyler Boyd isn't the player he used to be but when he was in Cincy he was a slot receiver that moved the chains. Bengals don't have that middle of the field receiver right now.

Yea everyone has pretty much fallen off in recent games other than Higgins and Chase.
They are 3-1 in the last 4 games though compared to 0-3 to start the season, so I'll take lower production from Iosivas and Gesicki if it means more wins.

Don't know what the exact problem is, but I don't have time nor interest to try to go back and watch game tape of these games, so I'll assume it was gameplanning by Pitcher/Taylor.

Let's see how they perform over these next few weeks before the Bye week.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Bengals did a good job of find him and sliding protection to get doubles on him too. They were chipping him sith TEs and WRs had to stack guys closer to the edges vs Schwartz wide 9. I don't think the Bengals were expecting as much zone coverages on early downs either.

I think moving the goal posts changes the entire argument though.  My beef is doing this with over 6 minutes left in the game, not under 4... totally different circumstances.

While Ford was working his hardest to fill in for Brown, he's just not athletic enough to compete with star pass rushers. I've seen it written that the Jags might let Walker Little go for a late round pick, as he's set to be a free agent at seasons end. Why not pick up some actual Tackle depth to replace Trent Brown on the roster?

Zach’s prevent offense, only prevents us from putting the game out of reach.

We keep relying on Mcpheson to bail us out, and it’s not working this year

Chase said as much after the Giants game and that the team needed to be better about playing more precise. I wonder to what extent Boyd contributed to WRs winning every play making it easier on Burrow? It appears Burrow is down a third a target who wins the match up against the DB.

What I do think is that he's so caught up in being a "nice guy", not wanting to appear to run up the score on opposing coaches, and wanting to micromanage the offense to a point that they become ineffective when playing with a second half lead.

My suggestion would be that if you want to run the ball and eat clock, focus more on running the ball as a priority of the offensive mindset. (See Dan Campbell in Detroit for example) Bring in the physical style of OL to accomplish the goal that you want to achieve. As it stands now, when the Bengals go into slowdown mode, it's like a parody of who they really are. Step on the damn throat, let the offense score that TD that puts the lead insurmountable, dammit.

Agreed, Sam Wyche never had a problem stepping on a throat, remember the glorious 61-7 beatdown?. Zac's playcalling & being in the gun the vast majority of the time is infuriating. I'd rather Joe called the plays it could'nt be any worse right?

I understand a bad series, quarter, half, etc. But this clearly looks like ZT is afraid to lose. The weight of expectations can be heavy and crushing.

What's incredibly devastating to the above is that the players on the team shine brightest with pressure and expectations. The players have no fear. The guy conducting the band is the one shitting his pants out there and is content to "take what they give you".

The Bengals are at their best when they go out there and just play to take what they want. The opposing team is giving the Bengals things for a reason. It's because those things don't matter that much.
