Lets face it we have a bottom 5 RB room I feel a stud RB would allow us to control TOP more open up the passing game and even protect a bad defense. This line isn't terrible best Zac has had nobody is afraid of our RB's

It's the scheme that's the problem we've been a bottom of the league team in rushing under Taylor. We were told Joe Mixon was done and he's having a career year in Houston and even catching the ball well. Zack Moss played well last for Indy and he's terrible now. We can never can a yard in short yardage and I think the O-line is decent.

Joe Mixon is a stud right now in Houston. He was terrible when he was here. Do the math

A stud would be great but even just a big back. Mixon developed some bad habits running the ball in dancing around too much mainly because the OL for multiple years was bad. However, all of the current RB's go down like they're getting clothes-lined. You do need a power back who can fall forward a few times for that extra 1-2 yards. You also need a back that can inflict some hurt on defenders and make them feel it once in awhile. These guys go down damn near with a finger.

If by stud you mean a future Hall of Famer at a Barry Sanders level, sure.

the bengals need a new guard. Thats step 1. Secondly, they need a new run game coordinator and o-line coach. Mims is the only good athlete on that line. That is a huge issue. Easily the most glaring problem

Some Bengals fans posted some tape of a couple games and i almost forgot Cappa was so up and down
I think because of his pedigree we kinda stayed off his backside when he plays bad but atp he needs to be Called out
I said last year i didn’t think Cappa was very good and that Eagles game tape was just brutal
Him and Karras just getting bulldozed like bums
OBJr and Mims are our only good lineman
At a certain point we may as well trade our 1st and 2nd rounders cause we can’t evaluate talent until the 4th anyway. If it’s not a super obvious Burrow or Chase pick we are gonna pick the wrong guy 100% of the time

Use Mixon and Moss as the measuring stick compare them between here and the other teams Texans and Indy.
It is the Oline coach we look bad out there blocking and have for years.
It does not help that we throw so many short routes teams are cheating towards the line of scrim since we hardly ever target the intermediate and deep areas of the field with the pass. We throw so many checkdowns that the other team is looking in the backfield and not turning their backs to the line of scrim before they read run.

So do you think Joe Mixon just morphed into a quality RB in his age 28 season? Or, is he behind a better Oline and being schemed into the game plan better?
I don't totally disagree that a better RB wouldn't be better. But the real problem is a trash interior Oline and garbage scheme's and game plans to utilize what we can do.

I've posted this before, but look at how unathletic this bengals o-iine is. OBjr is unathletic, but he's a very good pass protector. He's not a problem. It's the interior guys. Cappa and Volson are just slow and bad. Karras is also slow, but generally a decent pass protector, so he has some value. But Cappa and Volson are just putrid.

they need to add a very good and athletic guard. Cappa's contract is up after this year. Unfortunately, Volson's unathleticism most likely will remain at LG in 2025
fix that, and then add some pass catchers that are chain movers. Dont re-sign Tee. They dont need an explosive receiver. They have Chase and Burton for explosive plays. They need 2 guys to usurp Yoshi. Thats just an obvious fact. Doesnt help that charlie jones is a complete non factor. And old

It's a scheme problem not a player problem. We have a power line and our scheme leans away from doing power things. We need to get under center and drive block instead of these dumb zone concepts. Let the linemen attack, which is how a line builds cohesion and an identity. Also both run and pass out of the same formations - STOP GIVING THE PLAY AWAY. Make defenses guess at least a little by breaking tendencies. These are VERY simple things and would do us a world of good.

I've been a Pollock supporter in the past, but it's time for a new Oline Coach and Run Game Coordinator. I mean, how long's it been since we've had a run game? I know Burrow's Bengals will always be a pass first team, but we have to be able to move the ball on the ground as well. Unfortunately, I think it will have to happen next year.

if the bengals lack weapons, theyre gonna need to rely on the run and become run first. The offense has to be able to adapt. If it's Jamar and a bunch of JAGS, they need to have the personnel and scheme to be able to run the ball. You can only be 1 dimensional if you have a plethroa of talent in that area. When you have Boyd, Hurst, Tee and Chase, you can just throw it all game and deal with an inneficient run game.
but they dont have that. And they shouldnt rely on it always being there

Chase Brown, after 2 straight sub 3ypc games, is still at 4.6 on the year. He should be getting at least 15 carries a game and 18-20 touches. He's much more explosive than Moss.
They have a good RB, they're just not using him properly, as usual.

There's truth here
I'm not saying C. Brown is W. Payton 2.0 but he's way more of a threat than Moss. The last 3 games combined Brown has 14 attempts. It's nuts how quickly ZT abandons the run.

Moss and Brown are not the problems. Give them a line that can run block and they will respond

Agree w both Frank and Joelist’s posts and reasons for our futility in running the ball. And there have also been many times during the ZT era where I’ve felt we failed to commit to a running game , as Xenomorph mentioned. Frustrating stuff.
