Tackling, coverage responsibilities and overall team discipline. Way too many defensive penalties that just kept giving Pittsburgh excellent field position.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

It's the Rey Maualuga days all over again!

Yes, good point on the penalties. That has to be one of the most penalized games in the ZT regime. Side note, how about Jerry Porter Jr getting two penalties on one play? That guy is a penalty machine.

He came in with very limited credentials and didn't (couldn't?) surround himself with an experienced staff of assistants. He hasn't really done much about it over the years either. I'm honestly shocked that one of his coordinators was plucked for a HC gig. I'm not terribly shocked at the results of that hire. But yes... The glaring problem on this team is the defense.

Mike Tomlin called Tee Higgins a goon... Said he was beating Porter up.

Agree with you for sure. I can't say I'm shocked about Cally either, but that Will Levis pick has been bad for TN. Vrabel would be having issues with that train wreck too, imo.

L. O. L. Tomlin also said he was going to show Chase Brown what AFCN football was all about....that didn't seem to work out for him.

I honestly took Tomlin's comments about Higgins to be a compliment.

Considering the source, you might be right. I didn't think of it in that light.

I cant believe Lou made it out of the locker room with a job.
I also cant believe he woke up Monday morning with a job.
He is putting a defense on the field that is so horrible, in my 20 years i haven't seen anything that bad. Even Teryl Austin put a better defense on the field.

If I was as horrible at my job, i would not have a job. But job security at Bengals is beyond insanity.

That being said, i believe Zac Taylor makes it. He got the offence firing and putting up great numbers.
But having absolutely no defense, requires to score on every possession, which is quite impossible on an NFL defense.

I gotta agree with you there. Without the two blindside fumbles and the tipped interception, they probably score at least two more times. The defense is just dreadful.

That's high praise from a guy like Tomlin. (read as, we're going to do everything in our power to land him in free agency)

Problem is, I don't think he would come here and deal with the Brown family way of running things, and also the Brown family would be too cheap to pay him what he would want because they are about money first and foremost over championships.

Bill stunk his last 4-5 years without Brady and set NE back a decade

I admit, I've waivered a bit on him throughout the year, but find myself coming back to support him.

It's obvious and clear what the issues with this team are. Defense, talent on the defensive side of the ball, and talent on the offensive line. As far as the offense goes, I'm satisfied with it...especially with the shortcomings on the offensive line. They put up damn near 30 points a game.

Zach being the offensive head coach that he is, why is the barrel being aimed at ZT over guys like Lou, Pollack, and other positional coaches? It just doesnt make sense to me.

I think Zach is doing his job and it doing it as well as he can given the parameters. It's some of the other guys on his staff (and the front office, but that's a different convo) that are 1000% at fault for this mess.

agreed..but there has to be some changes @ various coaching positions..we need some new voices and some toughness and gravitas..and we need another 6-8 scouts to properly evaluate talent

Belicheat is still one of the best Defensive minded coaches and was still drafting excellent on defense. I think Dante Scarnecchia retiring hurt more than Tom leaving because their OL fell off a cliff.

I only want Bill in Cincy as a Defensive guy or if Dante Scarnecchia comes out of retirement to join him.

That's also my take away. Tomlin was paying respect to Tee being physical and toying with the DB. Tomlin wants Tee as WR1.

We have a good offense with Burrow and Chase.

Most know I think Zac is doing well both as HC and play caller, but recent "executive" decisions has me questioning if he has any power in those decisions.

The season started on a sour note by the way the handled the JC contract situation. It can be debated whether or not they should have signed him, but they damn sure should have been more assertive when JC was screwing them this off season.

There is absolutely no way Lou A. should be retained as DC, he should have been sent packing after the Was. loss.

There's even less reason that Pollack should still be oline coach. EVERY oline we've picked up in FA has gotten worse and we've hit on 0 draft picks (Mims does look promising).

IF Zac is pushing for status quo then he needs to go with the rest of them. I do think there will be a huge shakeup this Off-season, but Zac will remain.

What coaches win with sucky QB's?

Burrow would be his Brady here. IF the Bengals had an even average defense, they'd probably be 10-2 or 9-3 right now. Certainly no worse than 8-4.

His teams schemed and game planned at an elite level. We don't have that here.

I don't know what our defensive scheme is. We give up short throws that turn into long throws. We get beat deep in single coverage. And the middle of the field is wide open.

Zero chance Belichick comes to Cincy in any way. I mean to be honest. the Cincy franchise is beneath him with how they run things unless they do a 180 in giving him complete power which won't happen.

Now Rex Ryan on the other hand, he would be my frontrunner of a choice to be HC and turn defense around. He would demand some changes needing made I am sure, but he wants to be head coach again and he would have a MVP caliber QB in his prime. Anyways just my two cents.

Bill is not coming in as a "defensive guy" and by the way NEs defense also stunk his last few years there ..players he was responsible for drafting
