Possible Zac Taylor replacements
(12-02-2024, 01:03 PM)THE PISTONS Wrote: What coaches win with sucky QB's?

Burrow would be his Brady here. IF the Bengals had an even average defense, they'd probably be 10-2 or 9-3 right now. Certainly no worse than 8-4.

His teams schemed and game planned at an elite level. We don't have that here.

I don't know what our defensive scheme is. We give up short throws that turn into long throws. We get beat deep in single coverage. And the middle of the field is wide open.

He once had receivers play at defensive back when injuries mounted up, and they actually did their jobs serviceably lol.

Now Rex Ryan on the other hand, he would be my frontrunner of a choice to be HC and turn defense around. He would demand some changes needing made I am sure, but he wants to be head coach again and he would have a MVP caliber QB in his prime. Anyways just my two cents.

Belechick  set NE back a decade..he was marginal at best without Brady..actually not good...Why in the heck would you want Rex Ryan..he only had one winning season as a head coach ..he was not any good and his .457 record clearly shows this..but he is a handsome and articulate broadcaster

His teams his last years wiythout brady were bad on both sides of the ball and his miserable drafting set that franchise back a decade

The season started on a sour note by the way the handled the JC contract situation. It can be debated whether or not they should have signed him, but they damn sure should have been more assertive when JC was screwing them this off season.

There is absolutely no way Lou A. should be retained as DC, he should have been sent packing after the Was. loss.

There's even less reason that Pollack should still be oline coach. EVERY oline we've picked up in FA has gotten worse and we've hit on 0 draft picks (Mims does look promising).

IF Zac is pushing for status quo then he needs to go with the rest of them. I do think there will be a huge shakeup this Off-season, but Zac will remain.

Can't even agree with this especially at very important parts of games.I've seen waaay too many times (yesterday included) this cat goes away from the run especially inside opponents territory. Every 3rd/4th and short he goes for the gusto with crazy, deep timing fade patterns when they simply need 2-3 yards max. in 2 downs. It's happened for years. He never goes into short yardage saying we have 2 downs to get 2-3 yards and this is when they're gaining momentum the few times running the ball.

Can't forgive him for having the ball 3x in Baltimore within the Ravens 40 yard line and coming away with not even a FG attempt let alone any points. 3X run out of downs with crazy deep fade patterns.

I can't excuse him for the home game against the Ravens and running it 3 times into the gut in OT and settling for a 52 yarder.

I can't forgive him just a couple years ago on a sunday night game in Baltimore when they're gashing the ball down their throats running the ball and they try a stupid double reverse inside the 5 yard line for a massive loss of yards. All of this is just against one freaking team for crying out loud.

If Taylor were let go, let's be honest and acknowledge his replacement is likely a little-known to fans QB coach or an assistant offensive coordinator from another team. The next rounds of candidates doesn't comprise a hot commodity coordinator like a Ben Johnson from Detroit.

No? They were 11th and 2022 and dropped to 15th in 2023. That's pretty damn solid with one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

Man you’re wrong A LOT lately. Ryan literally went to back-to-back AFC Championship games his first 2 seasons. With Mark Sanchez at QB.

Well said Higgy.

If Zac sticks around he needs to step back from calling the plays. It seems it is always at the wrong time that we go away from the run and
he uses plays where the odds are very bad in getting first downs, let alone TD's. Like you say, the crazy deep fades and reverses.

We were running the ball well against the stealers and just went away from it as usual acting like we were down 3 TD's when we were only
down 3 at halftime and got a blocked FG out of Ossai. Herbert also had a nice run early and shown why I liked the pickup and then we go
away from him like always. Zac is allergic to success. He just doesn't have a knack for timing in play calling.

Burrow and Chase carry him sad to say. Some of this is on Burrow though, he loves the Shotgun and as far as I saw didn't go under Center
once yesterday.

Probably right. Ben Johnson is going to be a HC and has said something about wanting total control, we all know Vrabel or Belichick want
the same. We are most likely going to keep Zac, I just hope we replace Lou and the trench coaches so we have a shot at change for the
good on Defense. Cannot get any worse, this was historically bad under Lou.

I had hope Lou would be let go today, but it's nearing 12:30 pm so it appears he's keeping his job for now.

A couple of years ago, it was "quit forcing the run and put the ball in Joe and the WRs hands", now it is run the ball on short yardage......

Yes, very disappointing. Just continues for us it seems with this FO that don't run things like others and it really shows in this rough season.

Bettcher the LB coach has done a terrible job with the Linebackers this year, but he actually has a better resume' than Lou had to be a DC
before we hired him.

I bet that was only when the running game was terrible. It isn't terrible right now and it wasn't terrible yesterday. Chase Brown and Herbert
both had big runs against those stealer bastids. Man, would I love it to someday to just run it down their throat at will, but that will probably
never happen with Zac calling plays even if our RB's are running all over them.

If Taylor was sent packing, the classic Bengals move would be to promote Lou to HC...

It would never happen but the ideal replacement for Taylor would be Deion Sanders he could assemble an all star staff and move the organization more towards the modern NFL. He has over achieved both places he has coached at so far.

They got turned down by a lot of DC's didn't they? I think the Saints HC that got fired may have been one of them.

With the offensive ranking, I think Taylor is safe. Not saying he should be.

Which is ironic, because I think most of the board thinks he's a bad OC. Burrow makes him look good.

Could you imagine Deion working with the Brown family?

Deion still ignores the trenches and goes after elite talent to get him by. His teams get ran over big time.

Cannot see it, at all.

I honestly think now might be the perfect time for Belicheck. So he normally wouldn't come here. And the Bengals likely would never want a coach that wanted that much control.

But, I think both sides might be desperate to win. And Belicheck comes for Burrow.

You get a coach in here that can teach defense and that has all his SB's and these guys might respond well.
