Time to clear the benches

And start evaluating exactly what the Bengals have and decide if they're worth further investment going forward. I'm talking about putting Lee in at Center and putting Karras in for Volson. Get Burton at least 50% of the WR2 snaps going forward (this team isn't going to the playoffs, might as well get Burrow and Burton on the same page). Activate McLaughlin and start playing him, see what he's got to offer for the future. Defensively, give Murphy the bulk of Hubbard's snaps, Sam ain't doing anyone any good continuing to hobble around out there, anyway. Jordan Battle should get extensive time at both Safety positions, as Stone nor Bell are the future in that secondary. Lastly, get Jenkins and Jackson as many reps as possible to prepare them for next year.

This season is in the shitter as far as playoff aspirations go, but plenty of time to look at the younger guys and see if they have what it takes to become strong contributors going forward.

I'm all for it, but bench Joe Burrow first. I don't want him out there with experiments going on.

It’s not gonna happen - Zac wants to win as many as he can. Self-preservation.
He wants to keep his job so he’s not going to do this even though they should.

With you on this.   Look at what happened when they put Newton in (though granted LA had no film on him).  I'd like to see what the other younger safeties do.  Mix and match to contain the risk, but I'm all about seeing what Lee and Karras would look like.  Volson has badly been exposed.

I said the same thing about the secondary in the gameday thread ( you can shower me with rep, idea thief Ninja)

Anyway, that's what they should be doing. We know what we have sucks, are marginal, aging or a collection of those. See if a replacement is just sipping Gatorade. Or is it more dead weight we can dump. Somewhere in between? Maybe trade material to get some other pieces.

Sorry man, I don't do the game day thread.

How are guys like Burton and McLaughlin supposed to build consistency with Burrow if we put Burrow on the bench? Those guys will be on the field much more to start the season next year, might as well get them listening to Burrow now.

Yeah, but that is a short sighted approach. A wise coach would recognize that this season is in the tank, as far as playoffs go, and acknowledge that he and the staff need to take a closer look at the younger talent that they selected. Building for 2025 needs to start now.

I'm personally fed up with Burton. Cut that ***** is my position there. McLaughlin, I understand.

I'm saying I don't want any experiments up front with Joe out there. It's bad enough as it is. If you make these moves, you're essentially throwing in the towel on the season. May as well get Browning more reps while you're at it. If Lee shows something and the line play doesn't get worse, then I'd have no issues putting Joe back out there.

No call no show is a HUGE sticking point at work for me....and will be for my sports teams as well. Burton can beat it.

Burton looks to me like he doesn't like contact. Some of the balls to him looked catchable, but he kind of made awkward attempts at them. I don't know why.

Matt Lee was really good at Miami in college. Really tough. I don't expect him to be a star right off the bat, but he should play.

I was just thinking these very things this morning.

I mean once Pittsburgh breaks their foot off in our ass in two weeks and everybody realizes it's over. Lets put JB's season on ice and play Lee, Burton, McLachain, Murphy, Jackson, Jenkins Jr. etc.

This team has a lot and I mean A LOT of work to do this coming off season. Might as well know what they're working with.

I’m done w the Burton experiment.

Yoshi has blown him out of the water IMHO, and flashed with some very nice contested catches.

Not scared to get hit too.

I’m not crazy about Yoshi but he is a decent #3 (a weak #2)

Just an estimate……

Chase 10/10
Tee (when healthy) 9/10
2023 Boyd 7/10
Gesicki 7/10
2024 Yoshi 6/10
Irwin and Burton 4/10

Iosivas has made some good progress this year, but he's not soup, yet.

I don't know Wyche, ever since Burrow has been here, the line has pretty much been an experiment.

Yes, Lee is just a bit small, but he was a brawler for the Canes.

IDK what Burtons deal is, but no call no show was it for me. I couldn't care any less about what they do with him.

Yeah Burton seems like a genuinely unserious human being.  I have a tough time seeing him amounting to much in the league.

Dude may have some talent, but he lacks the professionalism to make it into anything of substance for himself or the team that employs him.  For some reason he reminds me of that Antonio Callaway dude that bounced around for a few seasons.

I hate to waste the pick, but wouldn't be pissed if they cut bait.  Even if he were to flourish for the remainder of the season, it's very difficult to rely on him going forward.  He's almost in the mold of the old Marvin Lewis home for wayward children guys.  It's nice when they talented ones manage to play in games, but depending on any of them is pretty impractical.

Exactly. How can you depend on a guy that doesn't show up for a walkthrough for a gameplan you are supposed to be a big part of? In my opinion, you can't.

I get it but I'd hate to see Burrow hurt in game 15 of a 7-10 season.

I think Burton needs to practice harder.

The one where he barely drug his toe...it tapped inadvertently. That's one that I swear I could have caught and drug my 2nd foot on.

And some of his misses, he barely even tried for them. No burst. No leap. Just kind of sticks his hand up.
