God Help Us If The FO Keeps Lou Anarumo Next Year
#21
What I really think Lou is missing is Robert Livingston. At the very least they need new DB coaches.

“Geno's our guy,” Anarumo said. “We'll move forward there.”

Despite Stone’s inability to finish, and sometimes even initiate, tackles, Anarumo said he’s firmly behind the safety and his effort.

“Geno's all in, 100 percent,” Anarumo said.

Per Pro Football Focus, Geno Stone ranks 55th among 55 qualifying safeties in run defense.

In terms of PFF coverage grades, Stone ranks 62nd among 66 safeties.

Doubling down on a bad decision. This guy is so full of himself that he can't even admit that he/they made a bad choice and at least pretend that there's a plan to move forward from it. He must go.

I read this and thought this statement pretty much sums up our defense this year. I can see Mike Brown holding onto this coaching staff another year with an excuse of past success (that is success in Mike Brown's mind).

so hes not getting HC interviews this cycle?  Ninja

He lived off some timely turnovers during a couple playoff runs, but the expiration date on getting credit for that has officially past.

Have to agree. His situational football IQ is terrible, just horrible, possibly rivaled only by Zac's.

Last week did it for me.  With the game on the line, an all out blitz (zero coverage) with CB's not pressing is flat out unacceptable.  I'm 58 years old and could've run that slant and got leverage.  At least press with inside leverage to break timing and force a lower percentage over-the-top throw on the sideline.  That is pure coaching, I don't care if it was a rookie on the field.

2019: 29th overall / 25th scoring / 26th sacks / 28th turnovers / 25th 3rd down
2020: 26th overall / 22nd scoring / 32nd sacks / 27th turnovers / 20th 3rd down
2021: 18th overall / 17th scoring / 12th sacks / 17th turnovers / 22nd 3rd down
2022: 16th overall / 6th scoring / 29th sacks / 11th turnovers / 20th 3rd down
2023: 31st overall / 21st scoring / 18th sacks / 12th turnovers / 22nd 3rd down

This year has been a disaster from week 1. There is no reason he should be back next year.

If you look at the Bengals drafts and how they were graded, they didn’t really do that bad. Most grades were B+ and an A here and there. No media criticized the players that were drafted. I got to believe the problem lies in the defensive schemes and what they are taught, versus all these guys being busts.

We might give up 500 yards passing against the Browns after watching Winston pass for 475 yards against Denver. I wouldn’t count on a win against Denver or Cleveland this year. I think are only chance for a win is against Titans, and they beat Houston at home. So that win is iffy.
I think we go winless, rest of the season.

People wonder what the hell is wrong with Cincinnati??
Anarumo is quoted as saying "Geno is our guy" and "Geno is all in, 100%" even though he is ranked 55th out of 55 qualifying safeties in run defense. At least he DID bench Bell, who ranks 54th in the same category. So Cincinnati has the worst and the second worst DB's in the league as far as run defense goes and the DC says the guy that is ranked the worst is "all in" and that "he's our guy"???????? Not only are the players junk but it's now pretty clear that the coaching mindset is delusional, as if most fans didn't already realize that. Mike Brown has destroyed this franchise

Oh he has to go. Last year defense gave up 2nd most yards, 31st. This year 27th (369.2 yds/g). Barely moved the needle.

Last year gave up 22.6 (23rd) pts/game, this year, giving up 28.3 (31st). Pretty big drop for a defense that already was struggling.

There is no argument that can be made to keep him around. At least no logical argument. But when it comes to the Bengals front office, logical arguments mean little when it comes to the model-model.

I've seen Mike Brown's name mentioned here and there in this thread. People like to think he doesn't have control of the ship anymore until it looks like that's exactly the case.

We're only as good as we are because of Burrow and Chase. Those two picks were can't miss players. The coaches didn't have a hand in their development. With Joe and Jamar eating up so much cap in the future, you have to rely on coaching and scouting to make up the difference. This is where we run into a huge problem.

Good coaches and scouting cost money and I don't see MFB ever paying for that. Why? Because he doesn't have to like he does with the players. How's Brian Callahan doing in Tennessee? Where's Marvin nowadays? MB cuts corners where he can and now we are feeling the pain.

Face it, the guy is 89 now and he's a billionaire with a great doctor.. Probably not going to get mentally sharper and will become more stubborn. This could go on for awhile yet.

We're never going to go out and get a Harbaugh because guys like him cost money and Mike doesn't want to pay for it. He has the whole league helping pay for guys like Joe and Jamar.. Sadly Burrow will probably force his way out in a couple of years .

developmental issue? idk. Maybe thats a smaller part of it, but this tiny scouting department and lack of adapting with the times 100% plays a bigger problem

That jackson carmen pick maybe cost them a super bowl

Lou should've been fired yesterday. There is zero reason to keep him on if they plan on firing him anyways. By firing him already, they can see how the players respond with a new DC, and go from there in evaluating them for next year.

If Bengals don't fire him, then Burrow needs to retire to get traded.

Lou was only an interim DC with Miami in 2015, and spent rest of his coaching as a DB coach. Maybe that explains the poor results in D for Bengals.
Maybe he is just not qualified for the position.
