We have too many holes

Outside of Williams who regressed and Mims in 12 games we've been awful at drafting OL. Ogbuehi, Fisher, Price, Carmen Jackson, D'ante Smith and Volson has regressed and just got benched in year 3 ! Plus when guys like Ogbuenhi, Price and Jackson left they were all awful on there new teams so it wasn't just the scheme. We blamed Paul Alexander and the ketchup bottle then it was Jim Tuner and now Pollock is the problem the one consistent variable is Duke Tobin.

I agree, but you gotta throw the Mike Brown factor in there as well.

Bengals also need a talented GM..at least 6-8 more scouts..new positional coaches for the defense and offensive line..but fear not the team will beat Dallas on national TV and once again everything will be ok in Bengalsland ( sadly)

Agree in terms of having so few scouts. Just a theory but I feel like it's easier for a scout to go to a game an asses a skill position because it just visibly easier to see them make catches or a throw or out on an island in coverage. Versus seeing interior lineman for example run blocking and pass protecting all game. Plus just using interior O-line man as an example how could 8 scouts watch every game of every guard and center prospect coming out of the draft the numbers don't make sense to me.  Seems like it might be a job for like 4 scouts and that's not even including all the other positions.

I didn't even realize Duke Tobin has been Director of Player personnel since 1999...with only like 2 or 3 years of experience as a scout before that..

Cut Hubbard, Stone, CTB, Rankins, and Cappa.

Extend Hendrickson and Chase, make those guys happy.

Fire Lou, Pollack, the secondary coach, and the DL coach. Bring in a new DC and let him staff it.

DT - Go grab Milton Williams from the Eagles. This should be your big FA splurge. He's an elite interior pass rusher and paring him with Kris Jenkins would be a good combination. I'd let BJ Hill walk. Kris Jenkins can fill that role. You still lack depth on the interior, though.

DE - This goes along with number 1, but I'd draft either a DT or DE in the first round depending on how the board is falling. If best player availabe is one of these two position, grab it. I'd still like to see what Murphy can contribute the rest of the year. He looks so damn explosive off the ball but he just falls short.

CB1 - A vet like Carlton Davis could solidify this secondary. I dont think we need a true #1, we just need a good veteran player. Pair him with Dax and Turner and I think youll be alright there.

SS, FS - You can bring in another free agent if you want, but you're going to have to rely on one of the guys you drafted to fill one of these positions. Depends on how the evaluation goes the rest of the year with Battle and Anderson.

LG - It wont be hard to get a serviceable guard in free agency this year for a good price. There are a lot of good vet options out there. Someone like Becton or Zach Martin would be an immediate upgrade.

RG - I'd draft a RG/LG on the second day.

C - Karras is fine for another year.

WR2 - I'd grab a vet here like Keenan Allen. Yes he's not having the best year, but he's got Caleb throwing to him. He had an excellent 2023 and hes a reliable, smart good veteran player.

TE - Re-sign Geiseki for cheap.

Probably. They had good players on that defense.

Lou isn't a good DC but this defense has poor players as well. The problem is two fold.

idk. I think Lou played the biggest part in the defense being great in the postseason.

I dunno... I'd like to think so, but I do know that we've had piss poor defenses (making pretty good coin) three outta the five seasons since January of 2020. They were also really bad in 2019. Lou was like the fifth choice for DC in 2019 and the results showed why. Maybe I'm being too hard on him?

Lou's scheme isn't bad but losing Bates, Reader, and Awuzie is killing them. Bates allowed them to play cover 1/3 and let Bell roam underneath. DJ Reader let them play light boxes in some run situations. Awuzie was a top man cover corner until his injury which limited big plays.

Now it's poor post safety play with Scott, Hill, and Stone. Rookie NTs in Jenkins and Jackson with BJ Hill filling a little bit, and CTB has been one of the worst man cover corners in the NFL on a heavy cover 1 man team.

no thanks on Allen his age and injury history make for a hard pass. LB is a issue as well Pratt needs to go

Right, and how do these coaches have time to be running a NFL team and scouting college football at the same time? I've always felt like that was a recipe for disaster. Quit relying on coaches to scout and get some dedicated personnel in that department. This isn't the 60s.

There aren't many DC's out there who can claim to hold Mahomes to 3 points in the 2nd half on multiple occasions

That’s just an anomaly, they play better against finesse teams than they do against bruisers, like the AFC north. Luis Mahomes isn’t as good as he used to be.

Against the Ravens, our offense and defense looked dominant. 21-7 lead. Brown fumbles. Then, the defense collapsed.

That says a lot.
