Burrow advocating for Higgins might not be because they're buddy buddy. He already knows what he's getting from Burton, and i'm not going to rehash the red flags and let downs he's had this year.
He's John Ross, but more immature. The Bengals need to do a better job of acknowledging their draft mistakes and moving on early. The sooner they pass the veridict on these guys, the sooner they can add actual help to the roster.

He's shown promise; I don't think they need to move on from him quite yet but the clock is ticking.

17th among rookie WRs (27th among all rookies) in receiving yards. Less than ideal.

I must be one of the few that sees promise and thinks that maybe he just needs more chances.
I hope we can get him involved more in the next few games and see if he can offer something that would make losing Tee more manageable.

I mean Ross had about double the production Burton has had his first true season.
2017 Ross (13 games) - 210 yards, 7 TDs
2024 Burton (11 games) - 107 yards, 0 TDs
Yes, Burton's YPC is far higher than Ross's was, but you have to ask yourself why a guy with that much speed only has 4 receptions and 14 targets in a year where Higgins has missed 5 games.
Burton had the opportunity this year to either A) give the Bengals confidence in letting Higgins walk, or B) supplanting Iosivas as WR3.
He's done neither of those things.
I'm not giving up on a rookie 3rd rounder because that's not fair, but he didn't impress like I thought he would have. I thought at the time of the selection the Bengals got a steal of a pick, who was a 2nd rounder talent-wise.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

I tend to agree.
He has had some knucklehead moves this year, but I think with a good off season, he could have a big impact with the Bengals,
He needs maturity and to see how working with Joe Burrow and being a favorite will impact the rest of his life.
No one would prefer catching balls from Sam Darnold...

You gotta have better than a 28.6% catch percentage if you're going to succeed in the NFL.
He needs to prove he can do more than catch one go route a game.

I'm still holding out hope for Burton but it's fading fast.

You're doing better than me with him, thus far. I think the kid has mental issues, or is mildly autistic or something. Who no-shows the practice before a game, when everyone was riding high on you?
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

I am not sure why we passed on Troy Franklin for Burton - or for that fact a number of Teams passed on him. If we were looking for a Tee replacement, Franklin fits the mold better physically.
Unless we felt Yoshi can replace Tee. I do like Yoshi's toughness.
Can Burton develop as a Boyd replacement with deeper speed? That is the question.
I don't think he is going anywhere.

Height-wise, but Franklin is a rail.
Only 180 lbs at 6'3".
Burton is 20 lbs heavier and 3" shorter.
If anything, Iosivas is more the Higgins replacement physically at 6'3", 205 lbs. Higgins though is a monster at nearly 220 lbs.

Not sure I would pull the curtains just yet. I would see what he does in the offseason.

If I had to guess, he'll sleep in late because he played slots alone all night, and then spend the rest of the day in his pajamas watching spongebob or something.

Gotta be honest, Brad.... You look better making that catch than Burton has in the games he's played in.

I don’t know if he’s showing promise or not. He’s always shown promise. Maturity and professionalism is what is needed to see.
Even Burrow should know that even if Tee re-signs he’ll miss time. WR3 is still up for grabs and there’s no reason to give up on any options.

Maybe get around to pushing a girl in the head if he goes outside at all.

That’s kind of where I’m at. It would at least be interesting to see what he did with some more reps and targets though. At least for something interesting to watch , especially when the season is pretty much a wash anyway.

Hated the pick and don't like the results much, either. Guys like him usually wait to show their ass until they establish a solid reputation on the field as pros. He went full turd right away. That shows a lack of discipline and maturity. Dude is toxic. We're probably fortunate that he proved this early rather than doing it after becoming a key part of the offense.
