So I guess one guy can stand behind another guy on the line and still be on the line of scrimmage. That would make for interesting play calling.

The only thing i can guess, and can't confirm without seeing it again, is that perhaps the two linemen were actually up at the neutral zone instead of behind the ball.  That could put Tee's helmet up at the center's hip, which would count as on the line.
