DC/OL wish list
(Yesterday, 09:03 AM)SunsetBengal Wrote: One has to consider the timeline when proposing the hiring of a Defensive Coordinator that runs a different scheme than the current personnel were chosen to run. Would Robert Saleh be as successful running a 4-3 defense? I don't know, never seen him put a 4-3 defense on the field, however his 3-4 defenses have been quite effective.

If they draft the right front 7 players in the draft they could switch to a 3-4, right? They need a dominant DT more than anything regardless.
I’m not sure if that’s available in FA but maybe they can move up in the draft or stay put and get lucky.

If they miss out on a 1st round DT the offense deserves a good guard.
And they desperately need a lockdown corner—my preferred pick (if they miss out on DT).
They need to hit the 1st defensive pick out of the park.
They could solve corner in FA too.

I love the people on this Board and their passion for our team and football..but playing pretend coach and talking about this scheme or another leaves me in stitches..They need players that can hustle..tackle ,execute..catch a football , etc ..regardless of any scheme or coach..man is it cold outside

My thoughts are that if you're looking to change defensive schemes, and be successful in that first year (win now), you're going to need at least a few proven veterans who are comfortable and experienced in that alignment. Yes, you'll want to draft to support that scheme, but you still need proven guys to demonstrate how it's supposed to work.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Definitely.
They have whiffed on defense recently.
To me that is why Lou got fired.
He’s the scapegoat.
Got little out of those draft picks.

Ultimately they need a great defensive coach with an eye for talent.
The coach needs to own the picks and the vision on defense.

Definitely would make sense to do so and double dip in free agency and the draft.

There’s opportunity for a lot of roster turnover and cap savings.
Anything could happen.

There could be some good free agent secondary players to chose from.
Their secondary has gotten torched—they need a dominant corner.

I'm less worried about CB than other defensive positions. We have a pair that were looking pretty good prior to going down with injury in Dax Hill and DJ Turner. We've known from day 1 that CTB wasn't CB1 material. It will be nice to see all the bodies healthy again next season.

With the prospect of changing to 3-4, the front seven is where all of the focus needs to be. We have some of those "tweener" types that may very well translate to being effective in a 3-4. I'd kind of like to see them give it a try.

With Hendrickson being on his last year, I dunno if it's worth fully moving to 3-4 for 2025.
Hendrickson is perfect for 4-3 DE.
I think he played as OLB in a 3-4 in his first few years in New Orleans, but he wasn't very productive.

I think keep the 4-3 for at least 2025.
That also would give one final year to see if Murphy is worth a damn.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

I just read that Bengals have no plans to interview fan faves Saleh or Dennis Allen....which is unfortunate
I have to think Saleh had alot to do with the SF and NYJ draft Defensive Draft picks
If you arent going to modernize the scouting dept or hire a real respected GM, for godsakes hire some coaches that can fill that role for you on identifying talent
