Volson it is hard to say - when you look at him the main issue is he sets too high and lets rushers get into his cheat - once that happens no lineman can anchor. By now he should be setting correctly but doesn't.
So we need 2 Guards. But they need to be Guards whose strong suits align properly with how this offense operates and especially how Burrow plays QB. That is critical. This seems (to me) to indicate needing large Guards but ones with a bit more lateral mobility; and ESPECIALLY Guards who are technically sound and anchor well.
So what you're saying is we could use a couple of stud guards? Write a letter to Santa Mikey.. We'll hope you've been a good buy this off season.

The way that someone who had participated with PFF explained it 60-69 was average and 70+ is considered "good", 80 or higher is "exceptional"...

Volson had better PFF scores in 2023 in more games than Cappa than the number of games that Cappa was better than Volson. It was just that cutting Cappa last offseason would've had around $10 million in dead money, whereas cutting him this offseason is only $2 million in dead money and will free up $8.5 million in cap space. Left guard is Ted Karras's natural position, Matt Lee should be really awesome at center, and you can probably get an above average right guard for less than $8.5 million.

Javon Hargrave will be cut (no impact on compensatory picks) when league year starts in March. He has played for Steelers, Eagles and most recent SF. He was injured and only played in 3 games in 2024. He is an example of signing a vet for immediate impact on our DL.

I am not against drafting a DT, but not to start week 1. I would use Rankins cut money to sign Hargrave.
2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

He was good his first year as a Bengal. He has just never been the same since the injury at the end of the 22 season. Sucks, but it happens. Especially to guys who were already kind of middling to begin with.

I think it is great is Matt Lee can beat out Karras at center (and be better) and Karras go to LG and be an all-pro guard, but unlikely for it to happen. If we had the fix on the current roster for both right and left guard, we never saw it.
We need a huge upgrade at guard in 2025, fix the trenches with vets.

Can we stop the "bump Karras to LG" stuff? Karras was a major bright spot on the OL with a pass blocking score of 78. We need to go out and get new blood at both Guard spots.

Even if they move him over he’s going into his age 32 season. It would be a short term fix. I was all for trying Lee at center when they were 4-8 just to get a look at him (and get Volson or Cappa off the field), but then they went on a run.

If they can find someone to trade down with then I would not be opposed to taking Tyler Booker in the first round.
It’s a need and if he tests and looks as good as he is projected to be then pull the trigger.

There are several OG's ranked where the Bengals draft in the 1st. Although I really don't know much about them yet other than their 1st round grade and a big Bengals need.

I would go with best available at defense with Rd1, hopefully Starks, Nolen or Grant and then hope Donovan Jackson was sitting there in Rd2.

I'd say that the general feeling is that top DL talent will run out much faster than IOL talent. I'd say that they could likely get a quality Guard, who could be a viable rookie starter in rounds 2-4.

My off-season wish list begins with RG, LG, DT, LDE. We have to get better, much better up front to compete game in and game out.

He has fallen off a cliff. His first year (2022) he gave up a total of 20 pressures and 3 sacks. Hell, he was league average last year. He just went bye bye this year. His worst season by far in those stats.
