Hilton learned to tackle from the Steelers long before he became a Bengal.

TF? He's 50/50 in coverage, the best blitzing DB in the league, a great tackler and an incredibly football-savvy guy: the literal only, "weakness," is somethin he's 50/50 on.

As always, lay off the bong.

This is going to come off as rude and stuff (it is 100% NOT my intention), but there is a handy tool called Google and/or Twitter :)

Hilton ability in man coverage is his only weakness. If you just judged him off of his run defense and zone coverage then he's probably the best slot DB in the game(along with Blitzing).

With that being said I think Dax Hill can take over the slot position and(because of his athletic  ability) he would give the defense more flexibility in man coverage.

Yeah, Mike Hilton is damn good. In Man he gets beat by big WR's/TE's. It is going to happen when you are the smallest player on the field.

He is our best tackler, best blitzer and just knows how to make plays.

Bring Mike back is still my call as Dax shown he can play boundary Corner last year and that is where there is a much bigger need especially
if we keep Mike around as we should.

Yeah, I'd bring him back as well.

1. He isn't expensive
2. He KNOWS he isn't expensive and that he won't break the bank.
3. He beyond loves it here (never saw him gush and love being in Stoolerland while he was there)
4. Great lockerroom guy and mentor.
5. As we've all said, he's a really good CB.

A no-brainer, for me.

Mike is a hard player not to love, dude plays hard as can be and just has fun while he is out there. Seems to really thrive against the stealers as well.

Perhaps no coincidence we kept the 2 coaches in the position that is Lou's forte.

Does it say: You guys didn't get a fair shake because the DC over-ruled you
or
Does it say: You two got to learn from one of the better DB coaches

Good questions.

I think our defensive backs were put in a bad place due to lack of a pass rush. I read somewhere Bengals were at the bottom third in the NFL getting pressure. I also saw progress of young CB's when our 2 starting CB's were hurt. Newton played well for a rookie 5th round pick. I can see him taking over for Hilton in 2025 if we don't resign him.

Taylor-Britt regressed after a good rookie campaign. But he also seemed to be playing better at the end of the year.

We have 4 decent CBs in Hill, Turner, Newton and Taylor - Britt under contract. They are all very young and hopefully have yet to reach their ceiling.

I actually like our CB room, but an older vet in FA would not hurt.

My concern is at safety more so than CB. Bell seems done. Stone seems slow and not a great tackler. Battle misses tackles and is average in coverage.
But the question is how would a huge improvement in rushing the passer impact our DB's?

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Now why in the heck would you create another hole to fill by pulling your best boundary CB and making him cover slot?? That would be just asinine.

Never get rid of a player whose forte is execution of the fundamentals of the game. He may have lost half a step in his quickness, he may have lost an inch or two on his leaping ability, but damn that guy sure can put another man on the ground better than anyone else on the team.

Dax natural position is a slot CB. He gives the defense more flexibility at that position then Hilton does. Turner and Brit can handle the boundaries.
