Yay! Way to throw a link out there without any context or plan of going forward. Mellow

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Wow, what an unprofessional way for a moderator and staff member to handle himself.

Unprofessional would allude to this being a profession with a salary.

Sunset you get paid for this shyt?

If not then he's a volunteer willing to deal with douches giving him shyt.

Creating a thread about potential cuts is all of sudden giving him shit?

It would be more interesting if it did not have the same 5 guys who have been mentioned in this forum we need to consider cutting. They are missing Moss.

We have 5 listed. 32 teams so average would be a little over 3 per team so we beat the average.
Ravens will not cut Andrews. I don't LA cutting Bosa either.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

I could see both of those moves happening!

The Ravens will have to pay likley this off-season and Bosa is an often injured player at a high salary.

Are you suggesting the Bengals go after specific players? Pointing out who outsiders think the Bengals should be cutting?

Personally, I refuse to get too excited about players on other teams until they are actually on the street. Far too much can happen between now and the start of free agency

All hopes turn to next year

Good stuff. Thanks for posting it.

If I read that right, Rankins, Cappa, and Hubbard are the ones whose contracts exceed their value by the most. Pratt & Stone are paid pretty well but still have some value as well.

I'd cut accordingly. The money spent on Rankins, Cappa, and Hubbard can be better spent elsewhere, and the players are not helping the team much. Maybe Hubbard can stay on a much smaller deal.

Pratt & Stone should stay unless we get a clear upgrade or need the money to land a real stud at another spot.

Moss at $5 mil is kinda expensive for a reserve RB, though by the time we cut him and pay someone else, you are only talking $2.5 mil net or so. $5 mil for a shakey PK is also a lot, though  again, we only save $2.5 by cutting, and still would have to pay a replacement.

A couple of swaps I'd consider if they are released:

Drop: Hubbard/ Pick Up Yoter Matos-Gross

Drop Stone/ Pick up: Thornhill

Drop Sheldon/ Pick up Larry O.

I'd be fine with cutting Moss and re-signing Herbert

Are you going to disregard free agents and just focus on cut players?

Pff grades aside, I thought Ogunjobi brought something to this defense that it's been lacking ever since. Not sure what he has left but I'd take him back at the right price any day.

It wouldn't be that bad of a plan considering that you can't lose comp picks to cut players.

He gambled a lot. He'd sometimes take himself out of plays and open gaps for the other team  but sometimes he'd create penetration and be disruptive.

Reader & Hill have more discipline and gamble less. They are more reliable. But Larry O. introduced some uncertainty for the offense to deal with. Sometimes it would pay off.

As for the cuts, I'd like to throw a couple more names out there beyond the obvious 3 (Rankins, Cappa, Hubbard), possible 2 (Stone & Pratt), and the 2 I already mentioned (Moss & McPherson).

1. Volson. He is scheduled to make $3.5 mil or do next year and should be a backup. He's our bestctun blocker but was giving Cappa a tlrun for the Triple Crown as the worst pass protecting guard in the league (Alex gave up the most pressures, hits, and sacks of any G, Volson was bottom 10 in all of them as well).

Cutting him would save us over $3 mil. If we can pay Ford half that, or all of it  or part of it  we should.

2. Drew Sample. $2.75 mil. Zero dead cap. Would anyone notice if we just let Grandy take his snaps?

3. Orlando Brown, Jr. Post June 1 we could save $7.26 mil by cilutting him. He is a fine pass protector but a poor run blocker. He is starter level, but not great.

Depending on how FA goes, if we are sitting there at #17, taking Josh Simmons and saving the $$ is not completely crazy. Especially if we think he can be a better run blocker. Heck, keeping Brown and taking Simmons also is not completely crazy, either.

I think OG, DT, DE, WR2, and TE are obviously a higher priority. But if we are gonna consider cutting Peatt and Stone because they are underperforming their contracts, I don't think Brown is immune either.

That's one heck of a hole that you'd be creating by cutting our starting LT, and one that I'm not sure that the Bengals could fill with equal or better talent for the same money.
