Seems more common these days.

I'm sure they can find a better coach, but when you are a crap franchise and you give a guy 1 year to win with Gardner Menshew and/or Aiden O'Connel under center in a division with Mahommes/Reid, Hairball/Herbert, and Sean Peyton and surprisingly effective rookie QB? Ooof, good luck convincing anyone who isn't ultra desperate/hopeless to take that gig.

He was in way over his head at HC.

Remember the full extent of his coaching experience in the NFL before becoming HC was 1.5 years as a LB Coach.

The real thing is if you kept him, good luck convincing any coordinators or coaches worth a damn to come work underneath a guy who doesn't know what the hell he's doing.

Props to that guy. I hope to just be alive at 73, let alone doing that sort of work.

Have you listened to any recent interviews with him? He's as charismatic and full of life as ever, he'll likely make that team competitive.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Yeah, normally you wouldn't want a HC that old, but outliers can't really be judged by the norm and I think he's very much an outlier. I would not bet against Pete Carroll because of his age. Dude still seems energetic and sharp as a tack.

Much like how you normally don't want a QB in their 40s, but there's an outlier like Tom Brady who got 2 rings in just his 40s.

Tough road ahead for Pete, though. He needs a QB if he wants a chance in a division with Mahomes/Reid, Herbert/Harbaugh, and Nix/Payton. If the Raiders do find someone to throw the ball, that division is going to be an absolute gauntlet.
