Big Play maker in Big Games. No Sawyer, no National Championship for Buckeyes. CBS has Sawyer ranked as one of top 32 players in the draft. I don't care who does what at the combines in track and field. Bengals a few years ago drafted a fast combine player who couldn't catch the ball and never made it for any other team either. Waste of a top pick. I like players who make big plays in big games if you are building a football team, not a track team. Sawyer has the size and plays all out to win, and will be a good addition to whoever drafts him.
Beware of Buckeyes WR Smith whenever he is in the NFL Draft. Like a Chase or Jefferson, Smith is too good for single coverage. One of those WR's that if only one man on him, throw him the ball, because one man can't cover him. A huge reason why Buckeyes won National Championship.
If a team is looking for running backs, Henderson made big plays in big games. Again, I take that over track and field combine.
Also the Buckeyes quarterback won Championship with his arm and with his feet like a Josh Allen. I'm not saying he is Josh Allen, but he passed and ran for 1st downs and was a great field general to the Championship. That he quarterbacked wins in Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and National Championship in January might be a winner that a losing team needs,
Jaden Greathouse of Notre Dane is one heck of a pass catcher. All he does is score touchdowns. Fast enough to get open, Big enough to fight and break tackles like a TE. He got Notre Dame back in the game with a monster game.
I know not all these players are this years NFL draft, but they all proved that they could help an NFL team when they are in the draft.

I like Sawyer and believe he's pretty good. But IMHO he's not a 1st rounder. If we took him in the 3rd I wouldn't be upset.
Ok, 2nd round

However I'm not just talking Bengals. Sawyer could be a 1st round pick for some team, and a darn good pick. A team that needs an edge rusher who makes big plays in big games.
I really can't say what Bengals need. A lot will depend who goes in free agency. I'll be very surprised if Bengals cough up close to 60 million to keep both Chase and Higgins. They have to keep Burrow to Chase. Bengals have some other pass catchers. Bengals have needs at many areas, a lot on Defense.
Just because you don't think Bengals should take him early, does not mean some other team shouldn't. Any team needing a top edge rusher and not a tweener LB size, but good D Line size and big play maker in big games would get a good one in Sawyer.

Bengals need to replace Sam Hubbard in their heavy 425 nickle defense. Jack Sawyer could give you thr highest floor week 1 taking over that spot. Nic Scourton might have the highest ceiling.
Whoever replaces Hubbard has to be able to play standing up, hand in the dirt, AND reduce to 5t (34 DE aka IDL) in situations.

So Csm Sample.
Folks are big on Nic Scourton and there's a good chance he's the 2nd best DE at A&M

His analysis says he also has the skill set to slide inside on passing downs. He seems to be the type of DE we have targeted in the past.
2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Preferably the guy that can play more Stand Up Defensive End ( or "Vyper" that we will hear about endlessly this off-season) but they are still going to play most of their snaps at 43 Defensive End.

I hope they let Golden have a say on who he thinks he needs to rebuild this awful Defense. One huge weakness is DT. Bengals do not have a Bell Cow up the gut to stuff the power up the middle or provide pass rush up the middle.
I'm all for Golden having a huge say in who Bengals draft on Defense, because the D was good before he left. Just as I want Reds to listen to Terry Francona on rebuild, I want Bengals to listen to Golden on rebuild. I don't think Mike Brown and Family have a clue in the drafts, so I would hope they would let Taylor and Golden and other coaches have an input on who might fit their systems. The Bengals need a Stud at DT either in Free Agency or Draft. Bengals were tough at DT in Super bowl year, but last 2 no play-off years Bengals are weak at DT up the gut. You build a D from the front back and you build a D line from the inside out. With out a good DT, the D will be weak. I like a good outside pass rush, but you have to stop the power up the middle play, the most basic play in football.

Well, they can only make one (1) pick in the first round. (yes, I know that they could wheel and deal, but they typically don't) And right now the best fits for pick #17 are looking to be DT, DE, G.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations
