Huge Draft Trades... Always Only For QBs..... Why not us, for Abdul Carter?
#1
With Joe Burrow, we are always going to be picking in this range when he is healthy..... 15th to 32nd, and there is no question about that.

What we all know we need.... is impact players, and we need them NOW.

If Abdul Carter really is a generational talent and a game changer like Micah Parsons, or there is someone else like that attainable in the top 10 who immediately becomes an impact player like Ja'Marr Chase was.... Why don't we trade a future first or this years second and this years first... and move up?

We never make those moves, and we need IMPACT PLAYERS.

What do you guys think?

Im in.

I wanted them to trade up for Murphy last year. But they just continue to sit on their hands.

In most years, I would agree, and I also liked Murphy.  Mims was pretty good value at 18 in 2023, though, without the need of trading further draft capital....

You spelled Bowers wrong.   Ninja

I was yelling at the TV to trade up for him as soon as he dropped out of the top-10, though I knew the Bengals wouldn't. Nearly 1,200 yards and a 1st Team All-Pro as a rookie later, and we still need a long term solution at TE since seemingly forever.

We haven't positioned ourselves well with needing more picks this draft and not less. Maybe FA agency will change that, but this offseason we have too many holes to fill to lose picks....

I would have to disagree this year, we really need to reload some positions, OG, DT/DE, S, WR. These to me are the big ones, granted I think we upgrade a few with our re-signs and a few outside FA's. But I think this is the year to trade back in the 1st and 2nd rounds and gain some extra picks. Picking 17th, I think if we trade back @ 5 spots in the 1st, should net us an extra 3rd, and trading back in the 2nd, should net us an extra 3rd/4th.

They don't need to trade up in the draft and mortgage their future. What they need to do is draft players with better profiles(athletic and good analytics) than just guys who weigh a lot.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

I'm guessing Carter goes no lower than 4th, behind the 2 QB's and Travis Hunter. That is the starting point of his value.

So the OP wants to give up 2 1sts and likely 2 other valuable picks to move up for a guy that isn't even going to be our franchise QB?? Shocked

As others have said, that's a move you can make when you are a piece away. I think we are potentially another year away from making that move. We need to solidify more of the team with young cheap talent because we have been so bad at it recently to offset some of these big contracts.

My guess on comp would be 1st this year, 1st next and 3rd this year to get up there assuming it's at more of the 3rd or 4th pick range.

I like Abdul Carter at lot, but if the team trades a lot of valuable picks for him and he gets injured, then it would set the Bengals back years. Von Miller comes to mind: signed by Buffalo for $120 million dollars and torn his ACL first year, did terrible the 2nd year trying to come back from the ACL, etc. Then there's the trade up from the 5th spot to select Ki-Jana Carter with a first -- a sure-fire talent who ended up injured.  It's a lot of draft capital to risk trading up from 17 to top 4, and the Bengals have a lot of holes to fill.

I'm in, but it might be a cold day in hell to see Mike Brown give up future draft picks or push the cap hits down the road in favor of winning now.
Dude is always (arguably too) worried about how the team could be 5+ years from now that he never tries to go all in.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Just need to make the right picks. Mims was a good start last year and yeah, I wanted Murphy just as much, but Mims was great value
and he shown why. Did Byron even play well for a rookie? I didn't get to see him get much action when I watched Squawks games?

We only have 6 picks, need to make the best of them or even trade back to add some more. Not give up a bunch for one player that for
all we know might be a bust even if I like Abdul.

I do not trust the staff enough to see top tier talent to trade up for it.

Now if you were talking trading draft picks for known players, I would be on board with that.

No need to trade up. Next year at this time when we look back at the 2025 draft, here's what we will be saying.

"Man, look at who we could have taken at 17. And 49. And 81...118...152...192..."

There will be difference makers on the board every time we pick. The secret to a successful draft is being able to recognize them when they're there.

Easy now, the new staff hasn't given us any reason to not trust them, yet...  Wink

With this team's history of 1st round picks getting injured and not playing their first year? I'm a no...

Moving up to a top 5 pick for Abdul Carter will be costly.

I do want the Bengals to be more aggressive in the draft though. Duke holds on to draft picks like they’re made out of gold but then proceeds to set half of them on fire with bad picks. I would prefer they have a couple less picks but are more aggressive to get the players they want.

A few years ago, there was a lot of smoke that the Bengals wanted George Karalaftis. Rather than wait for the “board to come to them, be aggressive, trade up and get your guy. Would you rather have Dax Hill + Zach Carter or Karalaftis? That’s what it would have cost to move up a couple of spots.

Even this past year with Kris Jenkins. I’m not saying Kris Jenkins is a bad player, but if the Bengals liked one of the other 2nd round DTs like J. Newton, T’Vondre Sweat, or B. Fiske better, they should try to move up and get them. I would have rather had Newton than K. Jenkins and Burton.

The problem is many of these top 10 draft picks dont live up to their hype. You dont know how their game will translate to the NFL. Trading up for a top pick is risky.

Sweat ended up having a very good season.  His name was brought up so many times in regards to the Bengals 2nd round pick.  I wonder if the Bengals would have taken him instead of Jenkins if had he fallen to the Bengals pick.
