Over 63 Mil to Rebuild With

Goodberry just had a good point of can the Bengals better spend the Tee money this offseason in a way that would be more impactful? The chances are low that we could get player or players that would have the impact he can have for us. I also don't think we can compare teams to say what exactly is a winning formula. The style offense the Bengals run of let Burrow drop back and distribute the ball you need receivers. Sign Tee try and add a guard in free agency and then see if we can fix the defense thru the draft and maybe some other FAs. With the way Burrow and Co. are playing we are in a win now window.

Tee's 28 million could get the Bengals Kevin Zeiter and James Daniels to fix the interior o-line, keeping Joe upright, giving him more time to throw, and improving the running game, with a few bucks left over.

Not to mention the potential player or pick(s) the Bengals could get via tagging and trading Higgins.

Tee for Maxx Crosby being the dream scenario.

That's the practical line of thinking that would improve the team in ways that retaining a weapon can not. Of course Zeitler would likely be a short term option due to his age, but if they draft his next in line this year, it could work out well. If you take those "few bucks left over" and add a few more to them, and they could add a very capable WR like Darius Slayton for about $16M/per (according to Spotrac).

As of right now the Bengals have 31.6 Million dollars ( including 15 million for rookie and in season players) to spend in cap space if they cut the following players Alex Cappa, Sheldon Rankins, Germain Pratt, Sam Hubbard, Geno Stone, and Zack Moss they would have 74.3 Million dollars in cap. If they went further in cuts like for example Cordell Volson, Drew Sample, and Ted Karas we would have 85.4 Million in cap space. Now if you added all the cuts up and potential extensions with Tee -16(cap Addition), Chase- +11(cap savings) and Trey +3(cap savings) would leave you approximately 83.4 mi!lion in cap space.

See dream scenarios is where I don't want to live. Yes the Bengals could add players that have a bigger impact than Tee potentionally but the odds are low that we make that happen. But letting Tee go and now that has to happen because you've added a major early need to the draft. You can't let Tee walk and not go all in on free agency which I think we might all over value to some extent due to the success we had for a few years. But we have had back to back bad free agencies. To me I think signing the big 3 and seeing what else we can make happen in FA before the draft is our best option.

Obviously we wouldn't cut all those players but I get you are just making a point. But that's another important point on Tee and Chase signings you could actually get some cap relief this year doing it right and enable you to still get some outside FAs before the draft.
The time to go all in is now. After this past sseason Seeing the potential of the offense and what this team can be there is no holding back. Normally I wouldn't get to optimistic that the team would go all in but now the players are watching. Burrow,Chase all our top players the team needs to prove they want to win and are willing to push the envelope to give ourselves the best chance.

Where are you getting that number? This is what people who make their living off of keeping track of sports numbers have to say.

To me, the logic boils down to what is better for the team's success. I realize, as do you, what they are likely to do is a different scenario.

Using the Tee money to sign a top guard and edge rusher, or two guards, is more inclined towards the overall success of the team. I think many in the "trade Tee" camp are looking at the potential value (proven players and/or picks) and the cap opening up allowing for signing known value players in free agency.

I agree the Bengals may not make the best moves and may crap the bed in free agency like they did last year. I am putting forth reasonable, trade for Crosby is my pipe dream, available scenarios.

Yes but our offense is based solely on Burrow diagnosing the play and distributing the ball to his playmakers. So we need more than one big time receiver. The Bills have Allen to run and even the Chiefs have Mahommes using his legs and a very good offensive minded coach calling plays. If I truly thought we would make the necessary moves letting Tee walk than I would be okay with it.

but honest question to you, does the success of the chiefs and bills with their lack of elite weaponry just go over your head?

even if the bengals dont sign Tee, they would still have Jamarr, which is better than any weapon KC or buffalo has. Which in theory should give the bengals the privlige to allocate more money to the rest of this terrible bengals roster

The success of the Bills has gone over my head.

Maybe if they had a pit of elite receivers Josh Allen may have reached a Super Bowl like JaMarr and Tee?

So you’re saying the only way the bengals have a chance is if they have another 1k yard caliber receiver across from Chase?

So there is no other way Burrow and this offense can find success? Kind of grim. You’re describing Burrow as sort of a system qb

I mean, it’s the Bills defense that blows it for them. Josh Allen actually performs better in the playoffs than he does in the regular season

I’m astonished so many people think the bills’ and bengals’ problem is not having enough weapons lol

We really don't. We just need to make sure we don't have any Charlie Jones/Trenton Irwin/Cam Grandy/Tanner Hudson caliber players on the field.

Joe Burrow is really good at football. Just make sure the pass catchers after Chase is at least NFL starting caliber talents and not a bunch of PS scrubs, and he'll do quite fine, more than quite fine if we have an IOL that isn't a pile of shit.

Keep in mind the last two years we have only had more than one big time receiver barely more than half of the time anyway and the two years before that only two thirds of the time. The rest of the time he is being filled in for by Trenton Irwin or someone of that caliber.

On this point, we agree completely. If the Bengals or Bills could actually run the ball in short yardage, the Chiefs' "dynasty" would never have been.

1: The bills had multiple chances to win that game. An elite wr could have very easily made the difference. But so could an elite defender.
2: i never said the Bengals need more weapons. I said don't subtract one of they're best weapons.

I'm pretty sure that OTC's number already accounts for the regular hold backs, just the same as Spotrac.

Yes but we have to fill those roles. That's alot of "IFs" even if we keep Tee. Losing him only adds to it and makes it absolutely imperative we don't miss on any of them.

I can tell some of you take goodberry's words as gospel. Dont do that. The bengals dont HAVE to lead the league in pass attempts. Its ok to run the ball more and play defense

If the Bengals wanted them that much, they would be signed already.
The players on Defense especially, because Golden may have other plans on how to fix this Defense.
The Bengals have finished out of play-offs 2 straight years, so they are in a rebuild mode, not a keep winning team mode.
Fans have favorites, I like Gesicki, but Bengals let TE's go every year.  They also really like this other TE that they tried to play more.

So the bad news some Fans will lose their Fan Favorites.

The good news this not a year many top names leaving.  Once you get past Tee, it is not a list of big name players in the NFL.

The Bengals freeing up over 63 mil to use in a rebuild will help. which is still a good chunk of money to fix the Defense and other weak areas of this team.

Of course the Bengals will resign some of these players as always, after they hit free agency and teams are not lining up for them.

I see this Free Agency as a Positive.  Dump over 63 mil, to do what needs done to get back in Play-Offs with Joe Burrow who is a winner.  The Offense is pretty much Zac Taylor and Golden should be OK on Defense.  Resign Chase long term and fill the gaps at other positions in Free Agency and Draft.  Maybe even resign Hendrickson to be here after 2025, maybe.

Bengals will have the salary cap money to try to fix the defense, so that Burrow isn't expected to score 60 points a game.  The Chiefs let Hill go and kept winning, and it's a copy cat league.  Chiefs kept Mahomes to Kelce, Bengals keep Burrow to Chase, and you have Defense and such like Chiefs, you say good-bye to a Hill or Higgins, but Chiefs show that is how you keep winning.

GO BENGALS.....They could use the over 63 mil to get this team from losing back into the play-offs and Super Bowl hunt where they should be with Burrow to Chase. ....GO BENGALS

Tiger  Who Dey  Who Dey  Tiger

I don't think a Chase extension will have much of an effect on the cap this year.

An extension would just tack on years to his contract after this year since he's already playing on the 5th year option.  I could be wrong, but most of the money would kick in after this year.
