Germaine Pratt is 29 going into the final year of his 3 year deal. I bet he asked for another contract and was flat out told no.

That could also be a factor as well. As poorly as Pratt has played, I dont see how he would expect the Bengals to jump at giving him an extension.

Glad he helped us get to the Super Bowl but he's welcome to find a team before he's cut.

I wonder if LB now becomes a real first round possibility. I can’t remember the kid’s name but I saw a top LB mocked to us. The knock is he is an off-ball LB? What does the free agent LB crop look like this year? I doubt we bring in a top LB to replace Pratt, this front office already has a ton on their plate with Chase, Hendrickson, and Higgins. Then there is the IOL and finding another pass rusher opposite Trey for the DLine. That’s a LOT to cover. Do we go with Wilson and ADG? Wilson and Njongmeta with ADG in a possible Golden’s “viper” role? Add a late round LB for depth behind those guys?

Y’all talk a little reckless about Pratt. What defensive player outside of Hendrickson can ask for an extension after last season?
None, and he had a down year. But Pratt is the only other playmaker left on the defense. He knows how to come up big in big games, in big moments. You can’t just ignore that when speaking on him. He should get a little more grace around here as a foundation peice on defense. ![]() Quote:"Success doesn’t mean every single move they make is good" ~ Anonymous ![]()

On a side note I do hope they trade some players. Do they even try? They could have got more for Mixon but was about to cut him?

I doubt backer is a first round, or even an early round possibility, because backer has become such a diminished role. I haven't looked, but if there was a stud hybrid safety/backer, I could see it, but that's still a long shot in my crippled opinion because we need interior defensive linemen to stop the run and rush the passer, and then a secondary to cover. I'd also rather get a free agent backer just because the NFL is an entirely different game than it is in college and we don't want to waste years waiting on a backer to get put to speed, so to speak.

He’s done too much to ignore and has been key in championship runs. Just because a players play may fall of at 30 does t mean fans should turn on them. Soon we won’t have any players on defense that has experienced playoff wins. Understand how to win in the playoffs. That’s noteworthy. Don’t underestimate players inability to step up in big games. It isn’t easy as we see every year in the playoffs. Pratt hasn’t been arrested, hasn’t held out, hasn’t embarrassed the fans or team, is a captain. So why all the hate? What did I miss? Fans still mad he yelled at Ossai? ![]() Quote:"Success doesn’t mean every single move they make is good" ~ Anonymous

I was going to say we should be in on the JOK sweepstakes if we lose Pratt. But damn. I didn't realize he basically absorbed a full speed Derrick Henry collision with his neck and his career is in jeopardy.

I'm not a fan of losing one of our starting LBs. We need more good LBs. Not to lose one of our best. Playoff P is a dude you want on your side.

The Captain wants to abandon ship while it's still afloat and I'm not surprised. Agree with others that he sees the writing on the wall that he will not stay a 3 down LB'er any longer with the regime change on that side of the ball.
Some are complaining about those complaining about Pratt. Yet I can tell you he lost them this season because my opinion that he should not have been made Captain was not very popular last offseason. He soured them this season by not backing up their confidence in him as a player. The Ossai thing ? Hell yes I think it still reflects on his questionable character, but if he would just wrap up in lieu of going the punch out more often than not he would be much more serviceable for a winning defense. We will see though because if Golden thinks Pratt is a solid player who will help instead of being a hinderance, he will be able to retain him per he is still on contract. If not then c-ya later. Agree with Bfine, see if Lou is still smitten with him. ![]() The water tastes funny when you're far from your home, yet it's only the thirsty that hunger to roam. Roam the Jungle !

Pratt has had a good Bengals career, but nothing exceptional. It's fine if they move on from him. He seems a step slower on the field and appears to give up on plays from time to time.
