Saw this earlier and I'm just excited that we're making moves to improve the team.
I agree that it's not the most comforting with no replacement in place, but the free agent class of guards is set to be pretty strong this year.
Haven't heard what the Colts are planning to do with Fries or if Zeitler has anything left in the tank.

Mike Hilton may be gone now too. Just waiting for the announcement

Will be interesting to see what else comes...or goes as it were.
Cutting Rankins was a fairly un-Bengals move too, but I agree that Cappa being cut is the indication that we mean business. In this thread, the OP expresses their doubt that Cappa will be cut because "it's the Bengals," so it's definitely exciting to see us breaking expectations of cynical fans.
I hope they continue to do so by signing Higgins by this time tomorrow :) (I'm ready to be hurt again).

He's a FA, so why would they have to make an announcement on Hilton? One of my favorite Bengals of all time, wish they could bring him back!
Edit: Just saw your post on the other thread about Mike, I assume the announcement will come from him.

Mildly surprised as even though post injury Cappa did not have it anymore as a Guard they usually sign replacement first then cut. Hopefully this means they have a plan at Guard already.

I think this signals that Joe Burrow is concerned and more vocal with this team. Not dictating just more concerned.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

The word I should have used was confirmation. It looks like they are letting him walk

Great move! Another one that proves this isn't the same old Bengals. They have freed up some good dough by cutting Rankins and Cappa who
were 2 of the worst players at their positions last season. We can definitely upgrade in FA and this also might mean we are bringing back BJ Hill
and Mike Hilton who are good players on Defense and add a couple quality Guards in FA like Becton and Will Fries.
Edit: Just heard Mike H might be gone dang it all. Wish him the best, one of my fave Bengals of all time...

Sad, we all knew this was the needed move (and I was/am fully onboard), but I really like the guy and he was a top 10 RG when we got him. Hasn't returned to form since his injury though, can't keep trotting him out there.
As Ike and others said in the Combine Interview thread (or wherever), we're apparently linked to Zeitler, would be fully on board with returning him, but I would actually take a top G in the draft at this point and maybe look at FA for LG, so we can get Volson to not start anymore.

Hubbard's cap hit needs attention. While he's certainly a candidate to be cut, I believe the Bengals will restructure his deal instead and let him be a rotational guy.

Guess I would be fine with Zeit coming back, but don't find it as likely. I heard his wife didn't like Cincy or something like that.
Would prefer Becton and Will Fries at this point to free up the Draft to go Defense while adding a TE and a RB.

Agreed. Restructure Hubbard's deal if we want to keep him around. He will work his ass off like always and as a backup he wouldn't
be hurting us. We need another starter opposite of Trey though.

Best possible signing to replace Cappa - Trey Smith, but he'll be expensive.
More realistic but good option to replace Cappa - James Daniels.
Still should command $10+ mill though.
Bargain quality replacement for Cappa - Dalton Risner.
Risner should be able to be had for under $5 mill APY.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

KC tagged Trey Smith.

Lots of good options at Guard thankfully. Would rather add 2 Guards than just Trey Smith who played like crap in the postseason anyways.

Oh I missed that I guess.
Then Daniels or Risner are two guys I would be happy with.

well i hope continues keeping players also, hope to see Tre leave, way too productive, also I was happy we signed Geno, he had come off a very productive year, sadly it did not work out in the big picture. Cappa though was trending down, like Hilton but he is on downside it seems, so need to let him move on

Seeing rumors that they're looking to trade Sam, and if they get no suitors, they'll likely release him.

it would appear that finally..just like is easily recognized on this Board and with countless others..the bengals are maybe starting to make the correct moves
