Let's hope. The Bengals are constructed the total opposite.
The good news is basically most of the defensive line are free agents and they need 1 or 2 guards. So they have to make changes. Likely need a safety too with Bell a free agent.

Yep not lately. Out of the top 3 picks the last 4 years (12 total) Mims & Chase only SB level players. Other average starters CTB & Dax. That’s an awful hit rate.

Well, Burrow is a much better QB right now than he was on the rookie deal, so there is that and we have a bunch of new coaches that
could help with drafting especially on the defensive side of the ball and we have a new OL coach. As Joe said, the window is his entire
career and I truly believe that. We get the Defense even mid pack and decent OL play in front of Joe and a SB win is in sight IMO.

Fast forward…
In the 2024 season, the Washington Commanders' defense ranked 13th in total defense (326.9 ypg), third in passing defense (189.8 ypg), but 29th in rushing defense (137.1 ypg). They also ranked 18th in scoring defense (23.0 ppg).
While not riding the defense to a SB, the defense was a part of the success.

...and weren't looking at having the 1st and ~8th highest paid WRs which will deplete the cash on hand that the cheap ownership will be willing to spend instead of paying their DE, and having Geno Stone at $7m/yr be the second highest paid player on the defense after Logan Wilson's $9m/yr.

It’s like talking to my wife, full of excuses and moving goal posts.
The primary difference in the defense was change in coaching and bringing in Bobby Wagner.
It doesn’t take all pro talent to get to average in the NFL . That mostly comes down to communication and doing the right things.
Like I said, not saying it’s going to happen. But it does happen, EVERY year.

Sounds like you need to go to some couples therapy because there were no excuses or moving goal posts even though those seem like trendy buzzwords you can use to dismiss a pretty clear answer to the question.

They were the 32nd ranked defense with those players. The turnaround in contribution was not due to Allen, who they just cut.

That is the thing in the age of FA, major improvements can be made quickly. The question becomes are the Bengals willing to heavily invest in the defense in FA?

And again... it's a whole lot easier to turn it around if you already have a few talented players as a basis of your turnaround to go with those 7 new starters.
The Eagles already had an All-Pro CB and Pro Bowl DE/OLB from 2023 that carried over to their 2024 bounce-back.

They made the Superbowl in 2022 and drafted phenomenal last draft. They also had a top 5 DT in Carter to build the defense around. Our cub bard is bare when it comes to the roster (outside of Dax: Maybe!)
