The board largely was. A few of us weren't.
As Bengals fans a lot of people talk themselves into liking the moves they make.

I dont remember too many people being excited about Nick Scott either. The way I remember it is all the other safeties were signed and we were basically left with Scott as there were few options left. Many people didnt like the signing but others tried to be positive about adding him to the team. Scott was no one's first, second or even third choice.

Slaton is pretty far down the DT free agent rankings too.

I don't see the benefit of whining because out of 400+ players, in our 8 yo 10 picks we did not draft this guy.
Help me understand how you fix a mistake in the draft if you ignore it.
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

I trust the guy whose OL practiced againts him.
The OL coach would know every strenght and weakness.
I have been doing a ton of mock drafts. It is amazing how different ratings on once you get out of. the top 50 players. It is all over the place. How many beat writers studied a NT from the Packers? My guess is none outside of Green Bay.

This guy does seem durable and is a run stuffer which is good. We need a LB that can pass rush too.
I'd probably sign Chase Young or Clowney at this point.
You gotta remember we have different coaches now Pistons. Maybe a pick might produce now on Defense yah never know.
The last time Golden was here Logan Wilson was playing like one of the best young Linebackers in the NFL.
I am down for Chase Young or Clowney if they fit in Golden's Defense...

Think you’re a little confused. Our new OL coach is from the Patriots.
The new DL coach is the one who was in GB with him.

If Slaton is an elite run defender and meant that much to the Green Bay defense, why would Green Bay let him get away at 7.5 million a year? That's not a bunch of money if he can shut down run games. Hopefully he is as good as some are saying because the Bengals defense could use an elite run stopper.

Never heard of him, but we need to stop the run, so I'm not opposed to the signing.

Because he won't shut down run games.
His PFF scores are pretty bad. Granted PFF scores DT tough.
I do like his durability. The run stopping is nice. And it's not like we could pay $20 million a year for a guy. So I guess this fits into the budget in grand scheme.
They'll sign Ossai, then we'll start hearing how they're running out of cap space budgeting for Chase, Higgins, and draft picks.

Quick question, did he have a good game against the bengals week 1? Because this smells like the same rationale as the Rankins signing (he had a good game against us so sign him)

He is a one trick pony, like Peko. Nothing wrong with that though, especially in the AFC North.

I don't trust those PFF scores on a one trick pony run stopping NT. I trust the run stop win rate where he was 3rd in the NFL.
It is a good signing, like you say, not too expensive for a durable run stopping NT that can take up blockers.
Get Ossai and a couple Guards. Then we can go back to complaining about Chase and Higgins deals not getting done lol

What he is is a big space eating run stopping NT. That’s his game. He’s not going to be a pass rusher in addition. And we definitely lacked the big NT in our IDL room. It’s a good signing.

Some people are pointing at ESPN ranking him 3rd in rush win rate. If he is truly 3rd best in the NFL against the rush, he should be shutting people down as there would only be 2 other guys in the NFL better than him in that regard.

Bengals didn't play the Packers last year. TJ Slaton was drafted by new Bengals DL Coach Jerry Montgomery in 2021.
