Tobin on his way out?
(Yesterday, 12:42 PM)coachmcneil71 Wrote: Right on! I didn't read it, so and I'll take your word for it, but I glanced over it.. Ts, the WR market ballooned over the past 2 years. It is a good deal! Tee's a #1 WR on about 28 of the 32 teams.

4 year deal with the 2 year option, deal is right at 100 mill. You do the math. It cost the team easily 20-25 million just for Tee because they kicked the can. The previous number had him coming in around 20 per. Dude stated that he wanted to be here. The changing of his agent was a master class in unionization, but it helped to get it done.

It's hard to place the blame directly on the FO because David M is an arse. No telling what he was asking for. Unfortunately, the WR market did change in that 2 year window and it did cost the org a chunk. Ts, if Tee balls out that chunk is worth every penny!
Agree with all of this.

I'll add, most of the drama was coming from New England and other big revenue areas as they were all chomping at the bit to sign Tee, and thought they would be able to.  When they couldn't, it's somehow the Bengals' fault because he was signed to stay.

Same goes for Hendrickson.  His agent shot off his mouth that he had a team(s) ready to sign Trey.  Well, that wasn't remotely true.  Bengals said "sure....we'll look at a trade for a 1st rounder".  When that didn't happen, now the Bengals are the "bad guys" again because they're asking so much.  Trey's agent is the one who stated he had 1st round trade lined up.  Where is it?

I think Al has some input here, too.  He is probably going to change scheme significantly and put the recent draftees in a place where they can be their best.

As far as Tobin is concerned, the sports talk blather is just that...blather.  Bengals love Duke.  He's a good GM.  There's a lot of basement journalists out there with the advent of YouTube.  They have no more inside knowledge than you or me.  And, the Browns don't play out their plans in the media.  IF something comes out of the Front Office, and it's labeled a leak, it was planned that way.

Again, you are looking at him collecting every incentive to get paid that money. For the team, if he plays in all 17 games he earned his deal, if he gets injured, he loses some of those maxium contract money you referenced. Do you feel Tee will play all 68 games (17 per year for 4 years) and get the maximum?
I hope he does, but I would be shocked.

I was wrong, his guarantee is 40 million, still extremely low and why FO did not cave to anything, they gave him a fair deal based on his injury history. All of the talk of Tee can fake injury when he was tagged have gone out the window. He loses a ton of money is he can't play. My guess is Tee took out an. insurance policy in case he suffers a major injury to cover for the lost portion of the maxium deal.

Yep, Bengals are probably the most private FO in the NFL. The talking heads and journalists do a lot of speculating and do things to draw attention so they make more money. There is no penalty to them for making crap up.
