Weak Free Agent Class this year?
#1
I’m watching Gronk and Edelman talking right now and they think this year’s FA class is very weak. Teams are overpaying for above average players is their take..

They are saying the best moves are the teams re-signing their superstars as those players are much better than what’s available in FA.
(Josh Allen, Myles Garrett, etc)

This echoes my opinion.

Locking up Chase, Tee, and Trey will be the highlight of the offseason for me other than the draft and filling out the roster.

No player in FA is better than any of these three.

What do you guys think?

I agree wholeheartedly.

It's why I why never up in arms about us not spending big on D in FA. Outside of Sweat & Mack  no DE was worth $15 mil. No DT was.

The year we got Trey and Reader was a great year. Not every year is like that.

They were signed in different years. Reader was 20. Trey was 21.

Locking up 3 of their 4 best players is the best move(s) they can make but they still desperately need to sign at least 1 guard in FA.
If they have to “over pay” a little then so be it. They were/are so bad at that position that they have to do something to improve the IOL. They also have to draft one within the first 2-3 rounds for sure.

I hope they can get Trey Hendrickson locked up too. I agree, they need one guard in FA at the bare minimum and should try to draft one before the 4th round. If they don't sign any additional DL help, I like Grant out of Michigan in the 1st over Nolan out of Ol' Miss. Nolan is a bit quicker but Grant, appears to me, to be more powerful and still moves pretty quick for his size. If they take Nolan maybe he could lose about 20 pounds and become a DE. Have to see how the rest of FA plays out first to know what direction they may go in the draft, also wonder how much faith they have in Myles Murphy at this point.

+ the Cap rose so teams like Dallas and KC signed thier top free-agents to deals before free agency even started. Which know one was really expecting.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Meh.

It is just a talking point to gin up discussion.

It was a strong FA for guards IMO, not that the Bengals are taking advantage of it.

Every year teams over pay for FA's, this year is no different. Fries was extremely overpaid as an example.

The FA class for WR's and the draft are very bad for true #1 WR's. There is no Chase, Jefferson, Marvins Harrison , Nabers or others that a team can confidently say will be a star in the NFL.

The Bengal's can't replace Tee in 2025, other teams can't get a Tee in 2025. It is an interesting dynamic that could cause a team to attempt to trade for Tee by a huge overpayment. If so, Bengals would be wise to listen expecially if mutiple picks in the 2025 draft.Teams with great 1st and 2nd round picks (top 10 in each round) are same teams hurting for a true #1 WR.

Titans
Pats
Panthers
Bears

I am hopeful Bengals get the deals done for Chase and Higgins sooner than later. I don't think it is impacting FA, they know the spend so have a plan for FA. We may not like their plan, but I am sure they have one and it starts with securing Chase for a long time.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

It might be a weak FA class, but the FA Guards aren't weaker than Cappa and most likely not weaker than Volson.

ESPN giving a lot of poor grades for FA signings. Fries signing was a C for example.

Yup. Assuming Tee and Chase will sign, the holes that need filled like guard means they have to nail the draft. Which my confidence level isn't exactly booming about.

Indeed, I am hoping the new offensive line coach can evaluate talent and scheme fit a bit better than Pollack.  I mean, he can't be much worse.  This should be an interesting draft, the picture will be so much clearer if the Bengals get the deals done with Chase and Tee and some resolution with Trey.

I think there will be some good options in the 2nd/3rd rounds for guard.

I think a FA OG is still in play. Once these contracts for "The 3" get done this weekend, they can recalculate their cap and go get a guard.

I hope so.

But the top two on my board, Zeitler and Becton, are gone.

For the most part I agree this year's FA was pretty weak, but not for Guard which is I think where the frustration comes from.

I was for getting those guys, but I like Teven Jenkins and Scherff just as much and they are still out there.

100% agree.

Higgins was the #1 player available in FA this year. To give you perspective on the depth of this 05 FA class... 35 year old Khalil Mack was ranked 6th best FA.

I seem to be in the minority on those 2 players, I didn't like them here.
I like Jenkin's pass protection number way better than Becton, so I am onboard with him. Sherfff's numbers are also good.
I also wouldn't be sad with Hernandez or Colon.
