Jenkins; Never a Realistic Option

According to Paul D Jr (Athletic)

Bengals were never and aren't perusing him.

WTFStopHammer

Did he say why or if we have plans for any other guards?

Facts don't care about your feelings. BIG THANKS to Holic for creating that gif!

Sounds like it is Scheff or bust. Best fit. Best pass protector. Equal injury concerns but stayed healthy with Jags.

Price was always too high for them.

A free agent will replace cappa, and some mid rounder will have to compete with volson

Volson and Ford, your starting 2025 OGs... with "competition" from 3rd year UDFA with 3 career offensive snaps Jaxson Kirkland and probably some 5th round pick rookie.

Or Risner?

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

They didn't mention Risner....

As in an option or not.

Scherff doesn't fit the scheme very well.

Technique wise but it sounds like new OLC may be changing that some.

I'd be cool with him, Will Hernandez or Lucas Patrick.  After that, a Shaq Mason type is a debatable improvement.  You still have the post draft cuts or even a trade if a team surprises themselves and goes guard heavy.  A theme for the remaining much needed band-aids is their pass blocking.  We will be doing a lot of that especially if the defense plays like they did the first 2/3 of the season.

I have a hunch we go Guard in either Rd 2 or Rd 3. I suspect their eyes are on Tate Ratledge.

Happy St. Patrick's Day BTW!!! Wink

Seriously, don't know much about Lucas Patrick, but yeah, Will Hernandez, Risner, Scherff...

Get one of these guys.

Ratledge makes a ton of sense, Mims old teammate.

I had Hernandez in the prediction thread, but Patrick will be cheaper as he isn't the pass blocking ace Hernandez is.  Has missed a few games recently at his age but numbers right at the starter level cutoff depending on your PFF opinion:

Ah, from the Saints. Thanks Phil. Looks like he is an okay run blocker, but a 60 grade in pass protection ain't too good and we have to
protect Burrow the most. That is why I would like the ones I mentioned.

I was listening to Tony for the contract reactions at noon today and they were discussing the need for a guard move (and extending Hendrickson) as key to a A+ free agency.

They talked about a Paul D Jr. Athletic article discussing guards.

Oh I'd prefer better, but this would be the guy that if we're digging through the Amazon return bin at one of those weird stores it would be like yeah that's worth double the 5 bucks I paid.  This is where we will be in a week when Will Hernandez gets a 3yr 8M/yr deal and the Bengals are shopping with their 2yr 9M total with 4 guaranteed budget.

I also have that feeling.

Tyler Booker, Donovan Jackson, Tate Ratledge, or Dylan Fairchild.

I think they should get a Guard even if they add one in FA, as Volson is in contract year anyway and not worth a damn.
Ford may be ok in a pinch but not someone I would go into the season planning to hand a starting spot to.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

No doubt, he actually blocks folks, we don't scheme that from our guards.

Absolutely hilarious joke aside: I still would like to see if we could "Becton" Jedrick Wills. Our current Oline coach has history w/ him.....of course, that could be why we're not interested
