Could be worse. At least they’re not crotch rockets.

I recall being that age and sitting in a car with a group of friends while the driver went over 100 MPH for no reason without anyone even thinking anything other than it was neat. I was sitting there trying to not picture myself being maimed or killed and trying to not let it show that I was concerned while wondering if I was the only one in the vehicle who was anxious. Are we all pretending this isn't terrifying, or am I the only one? Is the driver calm because he has the illusion that he's in control of the situation? I remember friends saying that they drove crazy and/or drunk but it was ok because they were a good driver. Did that mean if you didn't drive like that you were scared or doubted your driving skills? I also had a girlfriend a ways back who went to an extra podunk school in the country where everyone had to drive and there was this dude there who DUI/reckless driving killed more than one of his girlfriends, and he still managed to get dates. I guess it's like the Deadman Curve or Last Kiss era where it's just pretty expected teens are going to drive and die. For a small town the number people I knew who didn't make it beyond their early 20s if that due to driving or suicide seems high in hindsight. Oh, and that same girlfriend was watching some show about Amish people who become un-Amish, and it mostly centered around this group of 19-22 or so year old guys and one of them crazy-driving-crashed himself to death and at his memorial service his friends sat there and fondly told stories about the times he was driving like a total maniac and how awesome it was. Pretty wacky, but not surprising. Ok, I need to go do some yardwork I'm clearly putting it off. ![]()

This is why I am not against the clause in Shemar's contract. Just happy Ja'Marr and Tee are alright and didn't hurt anybody else when they were joyriding.

Yes, there is something about young people and the thrill for speed. Give them a Honda Civic and it struggles to go over 80mph. ![]()

Ja'Marr's a grown man with his own money; if he wants to be an idiot, that's on him; I just hope he never hurts someone else in his ignorance. My issue is his desire to post it on social media. A lot of young athletes look up to him and Tee as role models; I'd hate for a kid to get behind the wheel of a car not designed to speed and try to emulate their role model.

It seems that most folks tend to grow out of the fast car thing by the age of 30. Unfortunately, we don't grow out of the fast women thing until about 50! Ts, I agree with you.

I beat the heck out of that thing, and still cannot recall why I ever sold it. Fun little bike! ![]()

Eric has a car that can hit 22 mph, good for him. ![]() (07-06-2025, 10:58 AM)Essex Johnson Wrote: but how many of us played at the elite level, this is why teams want certain clauses to protect their investment... Interesting thing is, I have never been on another bike nor ever had the yearning to purchase one.

I never had the desire to own a big heavy bike, but I loved jumping, climbing, and riding off road on that little Enduro.

Hey now, my friend and I managed to get his Honda Civic up into the 90's on an interstate in VA about 30 years ago. Pretty sure I still have the physical picture I took of the speedo for proof. Thankfully we didn't blow up the engine. lol. Speed, to a point, has never really scared me, but I am also someone who loves to get into a 1700lb aluminum tin can and go thousands of feet into the air for fun. Motorcycles on the other hand, nope, I know I would die on one of those. Ha ha! ![]() |
