Draft Day 2025!!!
(Today, 08:02 AM)Nepa Wrote: Nor tackles for loss. Only 11 of those in 3 seasons (37 college games). In other words, he has all the measurables that you mentioned, just not actual production in the college ranks (1.5 sacks each year). Abdul Carter, for example, had 12 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss in 16 games last season. How does someone with so much speed and strength and quickness -- accomplish so little in terms of sacks and tackles for loss? It is now going to come up to whether Golden can develop him. He must think that he can, because they did draft him knowing how poor his production was in college.

Might be hard to learn to tackle playing two hand touch in practice.

Hopefully Zac changes his way on practices and preseason games this year got to get faster starts and better at tackling on defense.

Can't get better if you never get a chance to do it.

On tape, two things stand out. He is very strong with his bull rush, almost lifting people off their feet. He seems to have a good motor and plays hard. I hated the pick but if he can learn some more moves, play with a bit more control, and be coachable, he could be a fantastic pick.

Thats the problem, he was able to do that because he was that much more talented and physical than the opposition.....and he still couldnt produce. He loses that huge advantage in the NFL.
You win pass rushing with instincts, knowing when to bull rush, plant and drive, swim, etc. He has close to zero instincts.
He has no clue how to use his leverage or convert his speed to power, etc.
Then you get to technique, the reason Aaron Donald shadow boxes with knives, this guy has no technique or go to moves at all. Hes a great athlete in a great frame, thats it. He has zero feel to the game of football. Teams will have him so confused with misdirection and play action that I doubt he plays more than 40% or so of the snaps

Plus it is the biggest event between the the end of the season and the 1st game of the season.  So it gives us stuff to talk about.

I totally get all that, especially the emotional part when the player is selected.  I completely understand why people love the "soap opera" part of sports, and I don't mean that in a rude or negative way.

It just doesn't really do anything for me.  Nothing other than the actual competition part of pro sports really interests me.

Maybe it's because I don't live around Cincy.  Maybe if a bunch of my friends were Bengals fans I would be more interested in at least the draft.

Let me correct myself.  Harmon had 55 pressures to Nolen's 35 but 5 sacks to Nolen's 6.5.   Still Harmon was available at #17.  Steelers took him at #21 so this will be the comparison the next several years.  You could probably add Starks in there as well since the Ravens took him at #27 but the big comparison will be Stewart vs Harmon.  I just hope Harmon isnt putting the beatdown on Burrow the next few years while Stewart is still trying to figure it out.  Stewart does have the physical tools so hopefully he puts it all together.

Sounds like that was directed toward Pearce and Green as choices vs Stewart at DE

Maybe Nolen too even if I think we might of taken Nolen over Stewart. Sounds like all 3 of these guys. Character issues and work ethic were
Pearce's negatives, Character issues and undersized were Green's negs, Character issues were Nolen's even I think we would of overlooked
them with Nolen. Watch some Shemar Stewart film 007.

Dude has a great first step, comes off the ball like a cannon, has good hands to shed blocks, great size, strength and is extremely fast.

Just has to keep his head up and learn to finish, the finishing is what may take some time.

This presents optimism that Stewart will approach his NFL career with professionalism. Let's now hope he puts the talent together to immediately help this team.

the Steeler's pick Derrick Harmon's mother died last night soon after he told her he had been drafted. She had been on life support but man what a bittersweet day for that young man. His lifelong dream is achieved but he loses his mom. YOu have to feel for him

Yes and in Green's case he only weighs 255. That is small for a DE, Trey and Ossai are our smallest at 263 to 270.

I know some do not share my faith, but I have seen people on death's bed hang on for various reasons or let go as well. My brother in law waited for us to get to him, once we there my mother-in-law lived next door so she went to grb some food, he took his last breath. I believe he wanted to see his sister, but did not want for his mother to see him die.

I agree it was a great and a very tough day for Harmon. I hope he can use it as a positive to move forward, she had to know he was drfted in round 1 and hung until it happened.

His mother was on life support, so it would seem she was already dead, and they just waited to pull the plug.
