Welcome Shamar Stewart

They needed an immediate contributor on defense and they draft another project. What are we doing?
Everything in this post is my fault.

A true dead on arrival pick.

I don't know if this is a dead on arrival pick, but I getcha CJD. This was the one guy I thought we should of stayed away from with our history.

But we have new coaches on Defense and every one is forgetting this, every single poster on this board anyways.

Nah I disagree. Stewart was very disruptive player for A&M and you could see where he was game planned against. He is young and definitely needs to work on his hands and eye discpline.

They need to pay Trey Hendrickson if this pick really is a bust.

Steelers get one of the two DTs I wanted. We get another project that won't pan out. Literally the only name I didn't want called. I don't know what they smoking down there.

Sorry to be so negative, but they always go for the long shot and are burned. Palmer was right. They don't know ow what they're doing.

It is a different staff but they also have no track record of developing a player like this in the NFL. A lot of the coaches and scouts here have a proven track record in the NFL of wiffing on project picks and failing to develop.

Read a huge story by Max Tascano on the evolution of building a modern NFL defense.  Stewart is the "new" specimen necessary to collapse the bubble.

This read is from SI.com

This pick isn’t Akili Smith bad — but it’s bad.

Also, Stewart was a beast at the senior bowl.

Duke Tobin was starring Stewart down during the Senior Bowl position drills... Mike Tomlin was right there too so I expect Stewart was high on thr Steelers board too.

The Bengals are banking on Golden to turn him into something special, but you have to give the Bengals credit with their consistency. they cant draft well in the first round....

Had the most pressures in college.  I dunno, I can’t be upset . I don’t know any college players.

If you wanna get nerdy with it, a passing play with no pressure is a +0.233 EPA play. Only hurrying a QB still allows +0.019 EPA. Hitting a QB is a -0.161 EPA play. Hitting a QB AND hurrying his throw is a -0.323 EPA play. Sacking a QB is a -1.856 EPA play. You need to hit the QB 11.5 times or hit AND hurry nearly 6 times just in order to equal the EPA impact of 1 sack.

Drooling over a guy who gets pressures without being able to seal the deal is how you end up as the folks who wanted to pay Carl Lawson a mountain of money because he got pressures.... but at least Carl Lawson had the decency to get 14 sacks in his 3 years in college.

Hey man I support this sentiment. I honestly am not following college players outside the top 10 anymore so I don’t have an opinion.

But it’s clear the overwhelming majority hate this pick.

Montgomery developed a lot of players for the Packers pretty sure. Golden developed a lot of players every where he has went including here
with Logan Wilson and such. Hodges developed all kinds of LB's in his career as well. I don't know where you are going with this. Hobby failed
to develop Myles Murphy and every other DL he was given here.

We will see, Shemar Stewart was disruptive and had a high pressure rate at A&M and is extremely talented. I am going to talk myself into the
pick with reality even if I still don't like the pick. I wanted Green or Pearce after Nolen getting picked right in front of us, but all had character
concerns unlike Stewart.

I just don't know what you do with him as a player.

He had a 10.5% pass rush win rate and a 7.4% run stop rate in college.

That's the worst run stop rate and 2nd worst pass rush win rate among all defensive ends ranked in the top 100 on most boards (Carter, Pearce, Scourton, Williams, Walker, Tuimoloau, Stewart. Imanmielen, Jackson, Sawyer, Green, Kennard, Ezeiruaku, Swinson, Gillotte, Josiah Stewart, Jared Ivey)

Players with a pass rush win rate less than 14% in college have a nearly 50% bust rate, with only a few true standouts in recent NFL history.

Really, the only two are Rashan Gary and Travon Walker in the first round.

I just...I just really feel no hope that he becomes a good NFL player.

Here's hoping our coaches know something that the rest of the NFL don't...

Time for Al Golden to work some magic

He was passion coming out, he had that chip on his shoulder mentality..love that he is a 3 down  player , plays hard each play from his coach
