I think they addressed the TE position and to me a very big deal the team invested in Gesicki and he and JB seem to devleoping into a 3rd great option. We have Sample and Grandy as the blockers and Hudson and Gisecki as the pass catchers.
I do agree I have concerns at safety. Also, if Hill is not 100% by week 1, I hope we look into a vet CB or bring Hilton back ona team friendly deal.
At DT, we signed Slayton and 3 other DT's under contract for next 2 years.
We disagree about just about everything.
1) Gesicki may be listed as a TE, but he does no blocking. He is a big slot receiver, period.
2) We didn't address TE at all. It is the same group as last year, with the same problems, minus All being injured. We went backwards at that spot, along with CB & S.
3) The issue with our TE group is that they are all one dimensional. Sample is a blocking TE that offers nothing receiving. Grandy is similar and backs him up. Gesicki is the opposite. A slot receiver in all but name who can catch but not block. Hudson is similar and backs him up.
Our TE personnel give away the play. The only guy we had who could feasibly block AND catch was All, and he is out all year, most likely.
I guess you could say McLachlan, but he was a clear 5th on the depth chart last year and barely played. He has not proven he can do anything.
TE (All injury), CB (Hilton departure), S (Bell departure, now at 4 instead of 5), and 3T pass rush (Rankins stunk and was not worth the $$, but was replaced with a NT) all went backwards.
LB (Knight, Carter, Giles-Harris), G (Pateick, Fairchild, Rivers), RB (Perine, Brooks), and DE (Stewart) improved.
Now, getting healthier at some spots should help. CB (Hill & Turner), LB (Wilson), DE (Sample), RB (Moss). But I was thinking just in terms of names on the roster. And health can be fleeting.
We are obviously banking on scheme, coaching, and internal improvements and bounce backs from a lot of guys (Stone, Battle, Yoshi, Murphy, Jackson, Jenkins, Burton, Anthony, Anderson, Burton).
This was always gonna be the case. We had too many holes to fill via FA & draft. But damn, outside of the LB & RB groups, I don't see much I feel confident in being an immediate improvement. Maybe G, but it is shaky. We have guys "competing" for both starting roles. Which tells you we don't have a starter. That is a fail.
