Reds May 2025 Thread
Just about time to start talking about the trade deadline. I wonder who the Reds will trade. A few pitchers and some other players may want to play for a contender. You know the Reds will be usual sellers. lol

If they don't intend to re-sign him, then Hays needs to be considered regardless of their record.
Singer is an obvious candidate.
Probably not a popular mention, but I can see Tyler Stephenson being dangled if they want to make a big move for a MLB outfielder. When he wants to hit to right field, he might be one of the best in the league. Outside of that, I'd put him as below average at just about everything else.

Reds play First Place Cubs

Reds could get back to .500 with a win tonight and Hunter Greene pitching

A win also moves Reds an entire game up on Cubs.

So this is a huge game as start of Memorial Day Weekend of Cincinnati vs First Place Chicago Cubs.

Reds could still finish with a good record going into June.  May 23rdm still very possible to get 30 wins before May ends.

Oh Yes, Memorial Day Weekend Series is in Cincinnati.  Cubs Fans will show up.  This should be a sold out Great American Ball Park all weekend and that is MONEY and small market Cincinnati could use THE MONEY.  Imagine that, Pro Sports is also about making Money.  More important for a franchise like Cincinnati than playing on Halloween, is packing the stands and selling merchandise on a Summer Holiday Memorial Day Weekend or 4th of July and winning some games for the packed house to entice fans to come back again. Sell good food and drinks and tell the ushers not to give the paying fans the rude Cincinnati treatment.  Promote the Franchise in the best way to the full attendance Memorial Day Weekend paying Customers.

GO REDS.

Reds are just doing what reds do.

Injury list a mile high and they get in a hole, which means when they go on a good run, they just get back to around .500 +/- a game or two, before getting in a hole again. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Me and you don't agree on much, and this is more of the same.  You love to look on Bengals and Reds so negative.  I see Cincinnati as having a chance to have a Great weekend.  It's a given they will sell out the stadium over Holidays with Cubs in town.  So Reds make Money this weekend.  Reds lost money in 2020 covid no fans and in 2021 and 2022.  Reds did turn a profit in 2023 and 2024 and could use a money making 2025 Memorial Day weekend.   Reds can also gain games on First Place Chicago Cubs.

Under Terry Francona the Reds could finish May with 30 wins, which is good baseball. Terry Francona one of best hiring moves Reds have done in a long time.  So you can be negative as normal, but I see this weekend as a great opportunity for our Cincinnati Reds.  I will be watching The Reds, because as I say, it's not football season. That's another thing we disagree on, I say not every day of the year is football season.  Memorial Day Weekend and 4th of July is Baseball Season.  GO REDS.

First off, i don't like to do it at all. It's just the facts. I'm not fabricating or inflating the level of disgust and anger at all. Look at the Reds history over the last several years. That's what they do. Get below .500, go on a run to get back around .500 then go back in a hole.

Same with the Bengals. They do just enough to be competitive, but not enough to make them real contenders for a SB victory. And both teams seem to deal with more than their share of injuries.

I'm not the least bit content with simply winning 10+ games a year or 80+ games a year, making the playoffs a few times and even winning a couple playoff games. I've seen lots and lots of that over the decades. I'm ready for one of these teams to do what's truly necessary to bring some championship hardware home.

"have a chance to", doesn't work for me any more. Selling out games does nothing for me. The Reds making money does nothing for me. If you're able to mentally reset and be optimistic leading into any new season, great. I don't have that ability anymore because my expectations have been set higher than just some winning and participation trophies.

Regardless, i'm always back on the train leading into any game, cheering for wins. I just don't have any trouble expressing my disappointment when it doesn't go well.

Feliz cumpleanos, mi amigo.

Good first inning. Hope the blown challenge doesn't hurt later on. If you're going to challenge that early you better be sure you'll win it.

Imagine the prospects we could get for Greene and Elly.  We could start talking about how awesome 2029 will be in 2026.  Prospect acquisition and false hope are our playoffs/WS.

Withering on the vine.

What an embarrassment this game is, a new low for the season.

If this doesn’t wake up some people, nothing will.  Start kissing your fans goodbye.

Probably my biggest confusion when it comes to the Reds roster building philosophy is... Why do the Reds, who play in a HR-friendly park, keep building teams of guys without power?

EDLC is the only guy on the team with more than 6 HR right now, and he has just 8. 8 would be tied for the 5th most on the Cubs right now. FOUR guys on their team have 11+ HR and yes we gave up some today, but they all would have still had 10+ coming into the game.

Our HR leader is in a 21-way tie for 50th place and nobody in that tie has more PA than him.

1) Ian Gibaut should never pitch with a lead ever again. I've seen enough. It's not about ability, it's about bad juju. Gibaut must be French for 'cursed'.

2) Up 6-2 going into the 7th . . . give up 11 unanswered runs in three innings. That's a collapse.

3) The Reds hitters had the same amount of hits, one more walk, one less strikeout, a wild pitch with a runner on 3rd, plus two Cub errors, yet were outscored by seven. I guess those 11 runs scored on four home runs helped out. But Austin Hays hit a triple, so there's that.

4) They had the first six guys on base and scored the absolute minimum of three runs in the first inning. It's amazing how they absolutely suck at situational hitting, even when they're rolling. Trevino with a pop up and Connor Joe hits into a double play.

5) Spencer Steer with three more hits. He's hitting .276 since April 26th. His average is now .225, up from .109 on April 13th.

I might be finally done with the LockedOnReds podcast. 12 year old girls have less emotional swings and man-crushes than these guys.

Can't give away outs either.  Miscommunication, with Friedl and Benson, on a double steal with Benson on third.  Also McLain's failure to get an out on a ground ball.

This game is played with three outs and it's vital to not make gaffes... either... cutting short your own inning, or extending your opponent's.

I hate to think it but with their schedule for the rest of May and June (mostly good teams) they'll like be 10-12 games or worse below .500 to start July.
