They messed up on Chase deal last year. Messes up on Tee deal last year. But they’re right on Hendrickson?
We miss the playoffs guaranteed if we don’t have Trey
Being a Christian automatically makes you a good person? History proves otherwise. I think Trey is a good man who is has a dumb agent & for some reason won't fire him. Trey asked for more money before last season when he was'nt eligible by league rules to do so. At some point he needs to take blame for accepting what the Bengals offered him & him taking it. Trey did'nt win us 1 game last year, in fact our D was horrible "with" him on the field. He needs traded for whatever they can get. End the saga now.

I like Trey and think he's a good man. Unfortunately for him, he has no leverage unless he is willing to retire. This is all posturing, we've seen it before. If he wants what is best for his family, he's not leaving 28M on the table.

He makes 16m this year (Contract he signed)
They can Franchise him for 24M next year and keep him for 2026 as well.
Thats 40 M over the next 2 just by doing nothing, and he cant do a thing about it but sit out, or not perform, get older and lose a large % of the 40Mill.
If they offered him 2 years, 48M, with some incentives to get it closer to 55M....he should take it

Who now threatens to sit out the last year of the deal he signed, even though the Bengals offered him a 12 million dollar raise this year that they did not have to???
What in the blue blazes makes you think he's going to be happy next year with any deal they give him this year??? He and his incompetent agent put him in this situation. And evidently every time the cap goes up, he thinks he should get a new deal. If they gave him what he wants today and he signed, as soon as Twatt gets his new deal Hendrickson will want more again.
You just don't seem to get it.
The Bengals have never acted in good faith. In '21 they signed him to a 4 year deal. That's a good length for a FA contract. Only problem is, they got him on the cheap. Kind of a prove-it thing. His APY was $15M. Top contracts in '21 were $25M, $25M, $20M, $20M. Trey's cap hit was $12.5M. Top contracts in '22 were $28M, $24M, $19M, $15M. Trey's cap hit was $14.5M. Top contracts in '23 were $29M, $21M, $17M, $17M. Trey's cap hit was $15M.
Trey didn't deserve a big contract at the time because he only had one good year up to that point, so it was incumbent on him to prove himself. He did that year one, then tailed off year two. Then he exploded the last 2 years in sacks. He has always believed the Bengals would 'treat him right' because he worked hard, produced and said all the right things, supporting the team and FO always.
When the Bengals cheaped out and wouldn't give him the years because of his age, that's when the problems started. From everything he's ever said, Trey believed the Bengals would give him a new contract that was valued similar to other EDs that produce in the NFL. I don't blame him ONE BIT for speaking out now because he's always said the right thing and backed the FO. His contract should have been redone for multiple years and around $30M at the start of last year and none of this bullshit would have happened.
They haven't because they suck. I have no doubt that they're not willing to offer him anything more than 2 years and possibly $28-$30M per.

What I don't get is that when players sign a contract, then have a great year, somehow that gives them the right to amend the contract. However, if they happen to have a shitty year, the team cannot ask for money back for non-performance or adjust their contract based on the previous season's performance. If Trey didn't think he was worth $18.66 million for this year, why did he sign the extension? Or maybe it should've included verbiage that if others such as Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby get more money than that will give Trey the right to amend the contract? Obviously, that would never pass.
And yes, the team can terminate the contract and potentially suffer the consequences of the dead cap, but both sides understand this prior to the signing of the contract.
I think they should start writing stipulations for repayment of the signing bonus if players try to hold out just because they no longer like the contract that was just fine for them at the time of signing.
I mean, look at DeShaun Watson. Cleveland didn't even come close to getting their money's worth, but you don't see them locking him out of the stadium or stomping their feet about the contract that they gave him. It is what it is. Trey should be grateful that they offered him a $12 million dollar raise. If he pulls a LeVeon Bell and sits out the year, he will come back next season at almost 32 looking for $30+million again?
Never gonna happen.
The Bengals will win this battle.

Be careful attacking posters in violation of the COC, some may see this as a violation.

Stop it. That's not an attack on a poster.

this is an easy one, where both sides have a point, I would say both sides need to come to an agreement, no other way around.
Trey's pros: he showed last season he is still relevant and been the last couple of seasons.
cons: he is getting older and a gamble for the bengals (injury, laziness or lackluster season)
bengals pros: they can offer less and/or per market average
cons: they don't have anything better to replace him with at the moment. No edge, no playoffs.

Not really. That just means it's a misunderstanding.

They'll get him signed right before the season starts.

Yep, post and bring attention to a post is now considered a fair warning versus a PM. You did not warn me to help me, your intent was to make sure mods saw a potential violation.
Nice try, but this is not your first time doing this to your bros

Got any football takes? I'm not gonna argue with your revenge tour. This will be my last reply regarding that.

My take has become screw Trey and his agent. I hope it sits out and never plays in the NFL again.

That's fair. I've had the same thoughts about other players in the past.

Ideal world would be that Trey gets his money from Washington, we get Cosmi. Then Shemar/Murphy get Trey's snaps and deliver 20 sacks.
I think the D-Line overall will be a strength this year, as opposed to a liability. I surprised myself as I wrote this....
