(6 hours ago)bengalfan74 Wrote: BINGO

A few of us ha this convo way earlier in this thread or another one. They want to trade him like he's a very top tier DE. But they want to pay him like he's 2nd fiddle.

You can't have it both ways, so which is he front office?

Actually, it's been published many times that the Bengals were asking for a 1st round pick for Hendrickson. Just enter the phrase "Bengals asking for 1st round pick for Hendrickson" into your search bar and see how many listings pop up.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Our front office turned down a second round pick for AJ McCarron and a million picks for Akili Smith. I'm sure there are more examples, but they can always ask for the moon because there are no repercussions for failing to secure a good deal in a trade.

It's like when you look on eBay for a record or something and no matter what you are looking for there is always a listing with a buy it now price 10 times the reasonable value that never gets sold. We just aren't serious dealers.

Edit - Like I said back during the McCarton deal  non deal let's pretend Trey is a 1988 Ford pinto. I work at a car dealership. A guy comes in and says "I'll give you $35k in cash for that pinto right now" and I think "wow this guy is a moron...." but I push my luck by saying "actually it's $50k for that 1988 Pinto" and the guy says "no deal" and puts his sack with a dollar sign over his shoulder and walks off.

My boss isn't going to congratulate me for going for broke and driving a tough deal, he's going to fire me for turning down a $35k offer for a Ford pinto.

Now let's say I have a 1988 Ford pinto at my home that I don't want to part with because I have sentimental attachment to it because I lost my virginity in the backseat. I don't really want to sell it, but I should at least convince  myself that I'm trying to, so I put a for sale sign on it and when people come by and ask if it's for sale I turn down anything under $50k because I don't actually want to sell it. What happens when I don't? Nothing, I am beholden to no one in this situation. I push my crapwagon back into the garage and say "Hey. I tired."

actually..and you can find other so called insiders suggesting the Bengals were asking for a 2nd round  next year  and third round  the year after that..You can find sportswriters that supposedly have inside information suggesting that Sanders will be the starting quarterback for cleveland..people are all over the Board claiming to have knowledge of issues and its nothing more than personal and subjective feelings..have a great day

i see two big issues with resigning Tre, once we signed Higgins, that limited how much we could offer him, and him wanting a 3/4 year contract at his age, they might be still stinging from signing Geno, just to reflect back , Geno was 30 coming off another stellar season, signed him to a 4 year contract , we got 2 years out of him and he was done.

Exactly. Trey is desperate for a longer-term deal because he knows his time is soon over. You can't beat Father Time.

Unless you are Tom Brady or LeBron James.

But in all seriousness, there have not been that many DE’s effective in their age 33-34 seasons. Not at the contract Trey wants now anyway.

The issue with limited resources is completely the Bengals making. They could've easily structured things to have the room to easily sign him. I also think so many contracts the final year doesnt even count as players are just released if they aren't living up to the contract value that it seems the "years" part of the contract should almost be a non issue.

I still think the contract gets done. But no matter where you stand on Trey wanting to pay him or not I am curious if people will be upset if we dont sign him or any other players after freeing up more cap space. I see no reason at all we shouldn't be spending the available cap space we still have this year.
