Reds June 2025 Thread

They have 6 guys making at least $5m, and I feel like 4 of them are potential trade candidates if the Reds don't really pick things up. Plus a 5th that I wish would hit well enough that we could offload him....

Nick Martinez: FA after this year
Brady Singer: 2026 is final year of Arbitration, will probably be $10m+
Emilio Pagan: FA after this year
Taylor Rogers: FA after this year

Jeimar Candelario: 2026 is final year under contract, if he can come back, hit half-decent and anyone is dumb enough to offer a PtbNL, take it.

I'd probably keep Singer around at 10m.  He's at the very least a solid 4 or 5 and can eat innings.  Plus, if we've learned anything, there's never a such thing as too many starters.  All the others are no-brainers.  I like Nick Martinez a lot.  I just feel like that 20m could be better spent elsewhere.  I'd love to see a rotation of Greene-Abbott/Lodolo-Lowder-Burns-Singer.  I might even dangle one of them for offensive help, ideally Lodolo if the return was impressive.

Gotta make them pay here. 2nd and 3rd and no outs in a tied game? If not now, then never.

WOW... I mean, I guess they scored a run.... but 2nd and 3rd, nobody out, and your 1st-4th batters can only manage a single sac fly?

The reds absolutely suck

This year, They are 0-23 when trailing after 6, 0-25 after 7 and 0-26 when trailing after 8 innings. 0-5 in extra innings.

According to wiki, Hays signed for 5 million dollars. I'd add him to the trade list if they don't intend to re-sign him. I'd extend an offer to him to see if he's interested. His injuries have been small ones, but his bat is crucial for this lineup.

I'm just happy they beat the Brewers, their in-division daddies. Sure would be nice if this happened more often!

Any word on who they'll call up if Greene is to miss time? Maybe they give him more time to mend (or HAVE to) this go around. I know, for sure, I don't want Chase Petty anywhere near the MLB team. His recent send-down has been more of the same issues he had in his two spot starts with The Club. Can't find the strike zone. So, if not Petty, then who? ...do they jump the gun and give Burns a spot start or two? I'd prefer he stay in AA where he's facing equal prospects regularly. I don't want him up here this year if I can help it. Let him develop this year and win a spot out of ST in 2026 if he's earned it.

Looks like they signed Miley to MLB contract. Greene to 15 Day DL. Lowder to the 60 (yikes).

So when Greene comes back..you know Miley is staying (unless he's absolutely terrible these next two weeks), who goes? Martinez to the pen? Lodolo or Singer takes a trip to the IL for some rest? You know Abbot isn't going anywhere.

It was one game, in early June,  they are now 2 games under .500, and they are 9 games behind the cubs. LOL

YEAH!  You should be happy! What an accomplishment

$4m this year and then a mutual option next year for $12m or $1m if it's declined.

So yeah, probably ends up being $5m.

It's crazy to think about $10+ mill for a SP who is 4th or 5th in the rotation when the payroll for the Reds is usually between $100-120 mill.
That 6-year extension for Hunter Greene for $53 mill is looking like such a steal for the club.
Reds can't be spending $10+ mill on a 4th/5th and $20+ mill for a 3rd/4th guy in a rotation though.
They'll be stuck in purgatory at best.
They also can't be paying arguably utility guys with bad/inconsistent bats $15+ mill APY either (looking at you, Candelario).

Meanwhile, we see 5 teams with a payroll more than double the Reds (LAD, NYM, NYY, PHI, TOR).
I really do hate the lack of salary cap in MLB at times.
They just pluck all the good talent from these "poorer" teams and force those teams to have to keep catching lightning in a bottle in small windows to truly compete with them.

For GABP being such a hitters ballpark, you'd think the Reds want to prioritize really good hitters to take advantage.
I'm game for gambling on the likes of Greene, Abbott, Lodolo, Lowder, and Singer/Burns as the rotation for next year and turn that freed up $$ from Martinez and Pagan to hitters.
I think we've seen enough of these hitters to know most of these guys we just can't keep waiting for them to blossom and need some established hitters.
Plan for EDLC, Friedl, Hays, and Lux but it might be time to give up on the likes of Fraley, Steer, Espinal, CES. I'll keep the jury out on McLain and Marte, but the end of this year could seal the deal one way or the other on my feelings for them both.
Finding a reliable hitting 1B/corner OF/DH shouldn't be hard to do, even within the Reds' budget.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Typical Reds series again. If they lose the first game, they lose the series every time.
