I hope we get a good Lodolo day today. He's going up against R. Suarez who's been tough this season 2.00 ERA with 7-2 record. The Phillies also hold the 5th best team batting average in MLB .257 It would be awesome to see the Reds win the series vs. the Phillies today.
That would put them in real good shape to face the Marlins and Rockies on the 7 game home stand pre ASB. Make some noise Reds.

Our starters need to stop with the 20+ pitch first innings. It's becoming an ugly habit.

Steer completely ####ed up that inning.
Situational hitting.
Runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and this idiot is taking pitches on the corner with two strikes. First, he takes a fastball right down the middle. WHAT THE **** ARE YOU LOOKING FOR??? You should be going up to the plate looking for a pitch to drive in situations like that . . . not trying to "put together an at bat". That's the Votto stink that's still left over.
Even though this is on the road, it's moments like that where I'm glad I'm thousands of miles from Cincinnati. I would be banned from GABP.

I think it may be time to just accept they are a .500ish team.
They may finish 3-4 above .500 if we don't sell at the deadline, or 2-3 below .500 if we sell off the guys we should sell off (impending FAs).... But either way it sure looks like we will be close to that .500 mark.

That's the Votto stink that's still left over.
Thought this was a Kevin post at first from the random shot taken at Votto.
In his career with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Votto hit .323 with a 1.166 OPS. (He was intentionally walked 38.2% of the time.)

Awesome . . . but he sucked when Steer was here.

But Steer had by far his career year when Votto was here (so did Benson, CES, Friedl, Fraley, and McLain for that matter). Almost like having a top tier mind of a HoF hitter being available to get advice from is a good thing, and not "stink".

When he was a good hitter, sure. But when he was making $25 million a year and late in the game, he was clearly just trying to just flick off enough fouls to eventually draw a walk and then put all of the late inning pressure on someone making $1.2 million or less. I've always viewed him as more of a chicken shit than as a leader because of that approach and couldn't wait for his carcass to retire.
But maybe you're right. Being passive and taking fastballs down the middle is good baseball when your team is facing a tough left hander and you've got him on the ropes. Too Canadian for my tastes.

Yeah, except I never said that.
Votto hasn't been around for two years now. I think it's time to stop randomly blaming our only future HoFer for other players failures (and even failures is a bit harsh in this instance because Steer with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd is a career .533 hitter with 14 RBI in 15 AB, it's almost like baseball is a game of low success).

I'm very excited and fairly nervous about this game.
I just hope he looks good in the first inning. Keeping the bar low for now haha. If another hit barrage occurs, we'll have to worry about if he's tipping pitches for another week.

I've been busy. Sunday July 6th, I've had to see what Reds doing. The 4th weekend series is in Philly, so they make the Money. Reds were home Memorial Day though and Reds made Money off that. Reds were at Boston not long ago, but Boston made Money off that. Also not long ago Yankees were at Reds and Reds made a ton of Money off that packed house series.
Reds are over .500 at 4th of July. That is a goal achieved right thee. Field a team over . 500 for Memorial Day and 4th of July Summer Holidays. Only 2 teams will be playing Halloween, and that is for the Big Money Teams.
Reds could win series from a very good Phillies team today. Reds have their young gun up from the minors on the mound today. Maybe a little over rated this early, but the young blood might have a good game. The Majors really haven't seen him much, they don't have a book on him yet, so that is to the Reds rookie's advantage.
I'm glad to see Reds over .500 at 4th of July. To me Halloween is only a goal for the Super Money Teams since 1994 season ending Strike killed World Series for small market teams. That is OK by me, because I hate NY and LA and baseball on Halloween. 4th of July is Baseball Season. Only 2 Mega Bucks Teams will play Halloween. On 4th of July, all teams are playing, but how many are over .500 record. The Reds are and that is great. By Halloween I will be glued to Bengals Football anyway.

Whew! That was looking bad but he got out of it. Still though another 1st inning with 20+ pitches.

He showed some grit there. Should be a nice little confidence boost getting through the heart of that lineup like that.

43 pitches after 1.1 innings, two runners on both from walks. Not going to last long at this rate.
