Marvin Lewis' legacy is that he is the losingest head coach in the playoffs in NFL history. He's had 7 shots and missed all of them.

The one that went 0-7, but neither had a great coaching career. 

One because he was awful in regular season, the other because he was awful in the postseason.

But, again, no other coach has ever gone 0-7 in the playoffs.

Marvin Lewis is one of 24 head coaches to have 7 post season losses.

16 of those 24 coaches have won at least 1 Super Bowl/NFL Championship game.

4 made it to the Super Bowl

3 made it to the Conference Championship game

Marvin Lewis is the ONLY head coach in NFL history to have 7 playoff losses and not have a meeting in a conference championship game.

So, is Marvin Lewis' really as great as you're trying to make it out to be?

Thought I would expand your comparison to a few more coaches than Dom Capers. 

Here's my search for HCs with at least 5 years experience, and may be a little outdated. Didn't have time to go over current records, so found a Wiki page with all NFL coaches and sorted by years in the league so we can compare him to other coaches. There are many more, so please feel free to add, but thought 11 current and former would be a good starting point to debate what exactly a "good" coaches record looks like (establish a baseline).

All I am doing is pointing out that losing 7 playoff games is not the nightmare that you claim it is.  In fact it is better to make the playoffs and lose than not make the playoffs at all.

Don't know how you came up with this list, but I can help you make it more clear.

There have been 151 NFL head coaches with at least 5 years experience.  Marvins .543 winning% is better than 91 of them.  Not great but clearly better than most.

Marvin has made the playoffs more than 127 (84%) of them.  

Marvin is one of the 44 of those coaches (30%) who have not won a playoff game. 

So basically this solves nothing.  It all still depends on how much weight you give to losing in the playoffs.  For example there are 16 of these coaches who have won a playoff game (no championships), but had losing career records and only made the playoffs 1 or 2 times.  The question becomes are these guys better head coaches than Marvin just because they won a playoff game.  It is all subjective.

And I agree with that part. It it better to make the playoffs and lose rather than not make the playoffs at all.

I'm pointing out that Marvin Lewis' legacy ties in with post season.

Regular season? Very good job.

Post season? Terrible. Arguably the worst of any head coach when it comes to the playoffs. Especially when looking at the stats for every other coach that had 7 playoff losses.
