I think this is a great question. The issue is the Bengals FO is one of the most tight lipped teams in the NFL so they will not leak out possible trade offers.

I do think we are getting phone calls as team are getting decimated by injury. The Redskins lost Hardy and now they just lost Alexander so a guy like Hunt may interest them, the problem is they likely will not offer what we paid so the Bengals may not consider it.

The Giants have huge secondary issues and they got to watch our guys practice 2 times and played them so I would bet we have a few guys on their radar like Keo, Williams, Smith and a couple of CB's.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

I have a technical question I would like you to explore Jim.

We see game film live or taped based on TV cameras.

Do the Bengals and other NFL teams have additional camera set ups at games or practices to hone in on specific position groups like the OL or individual close up shots of players?

I know as fans we like to think we can evaluate players or units, but do the coaching staffs have a lot more detailed camera work to review?

If you get Game Rewind or Game Pass...whatever the hell they call it now, you can see coaches film. Wide All-22 shots and endzone views zoomed in on the front 7.

I don't get that, but I had a hunch they had a lot more film than the average fans sees.

They jacked the cost up to 100 bucks. You get the last 5 years or so worth of games, plus coaches film (all 22 and endzone) on all of the newer games at least.

It's really great to have. It's what I used last year. Don't know if it's worth a hundo though

1. How is D Dennard's injury / progress? Is he practicing? I was impressed by his and D Kirk's performances last year and am looking forward to seeing them on the field together this year.
2. What's the deal with V Burfict? Is he still just on the rehab field.
I went to practice a couple of weeks ago and I could have sworn that he was fielding punts (just for fun).

Interestingly, Dennard was in uniform last night. Saw No. 21 out there. So, I would imagine he’ll be good to go by Oakland. He’s going to be a gunner on punts, and he’ll be in coverage when Leon Hall slides back to safety with George Iloka. Unfortunately he got hurt so we haven’t been able to see any of those packages in game situations.

I don’t understand why everyone thought Burfict would be back by now (well, I do) but it just wasn’t really likely. I can’t imagine him not starting on PUP and be ready to go by Week 6. One thing I’ve learned about Marvin Lewis in my short time here is that you have to practice to play, and Burfict hasn’t come close to the practice fields yet. Tomorrow we can see the beginning of the session, but by starting him and Cedric Ogbuehi on PUP, they can keep two guys who can help them in Week 1 and in the immediate future.

As for the punts – I got that on a Vine, actually. A rare light moment!

I've always been curious to know just how often other teams call the Bengals with trade offers? I'm sure the majority of them are declined. Are the Bengals actively trying to pull a trade or have they offered any of late? Thanks.

Honestly this is impossible to know. I’m sure there are trades bandied about over phone calls, during games, in texts, on a regular basis. The Bengals aren’t averse to making deals, but a lot of factors are at play. What I’ve come to learn covering pro sports is that there are, technically, “offers” made all the time. But there are a few big leaps from those initial discussions to framing one out, especially with salary caps and offensive/defensive systems to manage.

Nice piece on Kumerow, Jim. Love reading about his work ethic. He's a Marvin Lewis kind of guy in that regard. I think he'll find a team. With our 3 TEs, however, I'm not sure what he adds to our corps of receivers. If he can be a steady possession guy to spell our "Big 3," I think he has a shot.

Thanks! I think the Bengals would love to keep him on the practice squad. That means he’s open to be plucked by any other team, at any point, but usually undrafted guys can slide through.

RoyleRedlegs gave the proper answer on that one. If you’re really into that stuff, it’s out there now for a price!

As for links … I’ll try to toss some more in here … I try to be respectful of the discussion board and not say, “hey guys, look at this thing I wrote today!” –

But I’ll do it now – a look at the goal line offense from Sat. night and Jeremy Hill saying that the Andy Dalton injury was on him for not getting it in on any of the previous three tries.

Thanks all!

Thanks all!

Jim, I love that you do this and this instantly makes you my favorite Bengals beat writer.

Anyway, my question: we all know that nothing short of an injury to Dalton will allow McCarron to start. With that said, is there any indication that any of the coaches or front office would be willing to roll with AJ after the season if Dalton and the team fail in or fail to make the playoffs?

Thanks Jim, good stuff as usual. Also, feel free to post as many links as you want. I think I can speak for just about everyone on the board when I say we enjoy reading your stuff, and we're all Jim O fans!

My question is about the RB situation. If Peerman does indeed keep the final spot, it seems like they have a tough decision, as far as the practice squad, between Wilder and Watson. What is your gut feeling as to who they would keep?

Yup. Post links like they're going out of style. As a Bengals fan, i love reading them but don't necessarily take the time to search for them.

Do my work for me, man!! Wink

My question is about Dalton and McCarron. Do you think the presence of McCarron (being young and eager vs. a seasoned veteran) is affecting/pushing Dalton to be a better QB and come with a bit more "fire" that McCarron seems to show?
To each his own... unless you belong to a political party...

Position by position which players are "on the bubble" and which of the bubble players do you feel have the best chance of either being claimed or traded?

Who was the "last in, first out" of the Bengal's 53?
Sorry for missing out on the roster questions - but of course I correctly predicted the entire 53! :-)

BUT - I can say that I felt Greg Little earned a roster spot if you saw our postgame video from Indianapolis on Thursday night/Friday morning, which was a mild upset of sorts.

There were no huge shocks, I don't think. It is interesting that they're going with just 8 offensive lineman, but Paul Alexander told me today that's all you can have active on game day, so why not go with it. But in reality, the backups looked awful. Granted, Hopkins/France/O'Donnell are all back on the PS, but we may see a veteran lineman picked up (and a guy like GLittle cut) after Week 1.

Trying to give Hill a new dance move when he gets a TD?

Replicating the one he did all last year.

Just watch him whip.
