With a photo of his wife set on his left and a box of yarn to his right, 91-year-old MorrieBoogart, slowly loops the thin strip of fabric around the pegs of the loom.
Boogart, who suffers from skin cancer and a mass on his kidney, is in hospice care at Cambridge Manor.
While he is slowing down, he spends his time knitting hats for the homeless. He stopped counting after 8,000, according to WXMI.

“I do it awfully slow, it maybe takes me two days to make a hat." Boogart told WXMI. "The only time I'm not doing it is if I fall asleep.”
The hats have a rim at the edge to cover the wearer’s ears. There are boxes of them ready to be delivered to shelters around the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.
He’s working on more caps to be delivered in October.
"Why do I do it? It just makes me feel good," Boogart told WXMI.
