Shoulder Surgery..

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting much for the past week. I recently had to undergo extensive shoulder surgery to repair a lifetime of accumulated damages from athletics, strength training, and general life wear and tear. In all, 4 repairs were made. A mid-grade tear on the back side of the rotator cuff, repair of a "slap tear" of the labrum, reattachment of a torn ligament, as well as a cut and reattachment of the biceps tendon.

Today was my first follow up visit, post surgery. The Doc says that the surgery was a complete success, and that my range of motion was noteworthy for being just a week post op. I begin a rigorous physical therapy program, next week. Doc says that barring any sort of catastrophic event, I should be back to gym training in 12 weeks, and be able to resume competition in as little as 6 months.

a shoulder is extremely easy to re-injure. make sure to listen to the doctor and take it easy for however long he tells you. my grandpa has re injured his rotator cuff (sp?) about 3 times now. He is a very hard working man, always doing a project on his house. puts work ahead of his health.

other than that, have a great recovery.

Yeah, I've wondered where you were.

It sucks, but I'm glad you got it taken care of.
I had the SLAP surgery, myself.
Like Gohards said, take it easy. (like you'll listen..lol)
I thought I was way ahead of the healing schedule and ended up taking a year to fully recover.

Recover safely and swiftly, my friend.

Good luck. I had similar surgery in December. Didn't get back into the gym until June. Still taking it easy. Surgeon said it would be a full year before it felt completely healed. It is better than what it was, but still doesn't feel completely right. Still feels uncomfortable to sleep on that side. You will learn to hate the internal rotation stretches.

Well, that is part of it.  The biggest part of the damage occurred from a fall, carrying equipment up a slippery hill.  Continuing to train and compete definitely hastened the deterioration.

But yes, I am excited to rehab and get back to doing what I enjoy.  I qualified for Nationals in my sport, this year.  Definitely feel like I've got a few goals left to achieve.

That's good news!

The female-impersonator pole-dancing federation needs you back as soon as possible!

Actually I have no right to criticize you on this.

I am on my third liver and still drinking heavily.

Years ago (while still a youth ) I had two impacted wisdom teeth removed.
Feeling no pain I didn't have the pain pill script filled, just went to bed once home. ( trying to be tough )
When i woke up the only thing on my head not in AGONY was the tip of my nose.

It's only disturbing, if it made you "tingle".

Catch this old man taking up the squat rack for 45 minutes at a time wearing a lifting belt while he throws his hips and lower back into each half rep of the 135 pound barbell curls he's trying to do.

If the IOC gets enough bribe money, that would allow Sunset to become this boards first Olympic athlete in 2020.
